American Airlines Max

American Airlines Max - 01/14/2020 09:39 PM

American announced grounding the Max until June. I guess there's still no fix.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/14/2020 09:56 PM

I think they may have known this was coming; our March and April flights out west have changed equipment twice. Guess they're shuffling planes to accommodate.

Carol will love this. Not!

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/14/2020 10:14 PM

No, actually, I'm quite happy!! I didn't want to be on the d*mn plane at all. Not sure if that means that I will be on another plane on the way down, and the Max on the way back. Will take a look at our flights.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/14/2020 10:25 PM

As of now, it's still on the schedule from Miami for the end of May.

No I heard it on the news today. And just a few minutes ago it was repeated adding "American to cancel over 20,000 flights"...

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/14/2020 11:23 PM

GaKaye just posted a very informative link to that. 2 post above your last post.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/15/2020 07:57 AM

Wow. Cancelling 140 flights per day. That's a lot of people!

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/15/2020 12:14 PM

And a lot of schedule disruptions. Looking at fall for SXM and basically nothing without overnight or 2 connections, which I know is something you deal with regularly.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/15/2020 02:48 PM

Oh boy, they already shuffled our April trip, making our connections long and having to overnight on the way home. I hope they are finished with April!

From the link earlier in this topic. I read it that any flight from April 7 through June 3 could still be impacted.

"Question: When will American run a schedule change and inform customers who were booked on a MAX from April 7 through June 3?
Answer: American had previously canceled service on the MAX through April 6. On Jan. 19, American will run a formal schedule change, and customers who were previously booked on a MAX through June 3 will see their reservation updated on aa.com. Additional refinements to our schedule through June 3 will also occur in February 2020."

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/17/2020 03:53 PM

My thinking is:
1. whenever the MAX returns it will be the SAFEST plane in the sky. No other plane has gone through the more rigorous evaluation imposed on the MAX
2. All of the other planes in the Sky will be flying under the same old certification rules (relying on Airbus and Boeing to self inspect) and scrutiny that was applied when the MAX was originally approved.

If you watch the series MAYDAY you will realize that there is always the possibility that a new defect will pop up on an older plane.

I will fly the MAX.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/18/2020 02:20 PM

Yet another problem discovrred on the 737Max. I wonder how it was certified to fly in the first place.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/18/2020 02:43 PM

I suppose I sort of understand I AM CDN's thinking about the MAX being totally safe when it returns someday, but I think I'll take my chances on the jetliners that have proven safety records over many years. Not that we can truly control this, because planes can be switched at any time, but Boeing's 737 and 767 series have had tremendous safety records since they were first introduced, as has the Airbus A330 and A350. I don't always check crash rates of the planes before I fly, but when the MAX returns I will most likely opt for one of the above aircraft instead.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/18/2020 04:23 PM

Should be interesting when they actually do the changes tomorrow. AA says that they will actually notify everyone who has changes. We are affected, at least on our flight TO SXM in May from Miami, so will see if they actually do notify us. I will be checking tomorrow regardless. I assume that they will change our plane but I sure hope they go back to the 12:30 PM schedule from Miami, versus the Max 8 schedule, which is 10:30 or so. Since we've driving to Miami, which is 3.5 hours, much prefer the later schedule, plus I don't see how much of anyone could connect to a 10:30 AM flight.. We'll see.

Hope it works out for you Carol.

I don’t want to be up in a plane when every minute you’re thinking, “Jeez I hoped they fixed it”.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/19/2020 02:41 AM

What I heard is the Max will fly when everyone is ready for it to fly, from airlines like AA who have a more premium model and did the training to the bargain airlines that have very base models and still need the training.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/19/2020 07:34 PM

Well, so far, the Max is on the schedule still for late May from Miami. I'm guessing they will upload all the changes overnight or something?

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/20/2020 02:34 PM

Well, as of just now, the d*mn Max 8 is still on the schedule for the end of May. So I guess they didn't do the schedule changes yet, even though they said they were going to do it yesterday.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/20/2020 09:40 PM

Hi Carol, We are flying out of MIA on May 22nd. When we booked our flight, there were two flights from MIA to SXM on that day. Now only one. We were scheduled to fly on the Max 8 too. Obviously that isn't going to happen!
So far, so good. We had the early flight and that is the one they are still showing as available.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/20/2020 10:00 PM

FF--that was the case when we booked also, although we intentionally booked the LATER flight, for several reasons, not the least of which was to NOT be on the Max 8. I also wanted the later flight time. Obviously, they have missed the boat on the date they said they would make the changes. We will see when they actually do make them. I am really hoping to ditch the Max 8, as well as going back to the later fight time. We will see..

Luckily our flights in May are all through CLT and not on MAX 8s

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 01:08 PM

I just checked our AA flights for May and they still have us on a 737Max from MIA to SXM. No changes to any of our Itinerary yet.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 01:18 PM

I was going to check again this morning, so thanks for saving me the trouble.

What is your flight no. Is it 2219 leaving around 12.30?
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 07:17 PM

bran--as of now, 2219 doesn't exist for May. All they are showing is the Max 8 flight, which leaves around 10:30 AM.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 08:34 PM

Yes, just checked....My flight is end of April and hasn't changed. 737-800. In fact always have taken the same flight. Years ago they had a 10am something flight and much preferred that. Yes you are right, checked in May and it states the max leaving at 10.56am. suppose the worse that could happen would be to shift you over to the 2219 flight but they should do this now!!!! If they know the max will not be flying.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 08:35 PM

Meant to say, create the old 2219 flight for May.......

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 08:47 PM

No, our flight number is 1136 departing at 11am. Still no change.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/21/2020 09:58 PM

I heard earliest release date would be July on news this a.m. I have run into several problems with American Airlines lately -- Delta for me for the time being.

Story from yesterday

...and yet, as of this morning, the Max 8 is still on the schedule for May from Miami.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/22/2020 06:28 PM

The CEO of Boeing announced about ten minutes ago, that they won't be flying until June or July at the earliest.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/22/2020 06:50 PM

The announcement they posted the other day on their website said that they were off the schedule until June 4, already, and that the changes would be made on January 19. But the d*mn thing is still listed on flights at the end of May from Miami.

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/22/2020 09:45 PM

I'm sure it will take them a while to juggle planes and reschedule. Guessing they're working on more current flights first.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/22/2020 10:18 PM

I'm just quoting what AA said themselves, that they were going to remove the Max 8 through June 4, on January 19, and it still hasn't happened. My guess at this point is that they maybe are going to remove it for a longer period of time, based on the announcement of today and they were somehow waiting for that announcement before doing any more changes at all? Probably has something to do with money... Some payment due to Boeing or something. ……... Just spitballing. Probably just their typical lack of organization..

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/23/2020 11:32 AM

Carol, have you asked airline directly what's happening on your flight? I'd be proactive to make sure I get on another flight and not left "in the dust" as AA has done to people before (self included) causing loss of vacation days because they put you on another flight another day.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/23/2020 01:23 PM

RonDon--I cannot imagine even AA would be screwed up enough to NOT have a flight from Miami to SXM. They are still selling tickets, I guess, on the Max flight, and it is not very full. Of course I don't go until May. Haven't called them myself, as I'm sure they will tell me they don't know.

Agreed with RD, a call to a Supervisor might be a good idea?

It may well be a good idea but it also appears the schedule changes may not be totally implemented until sometime through Feb. I know this is frustrating and I have a flight booked on AA for early March that may or may not be impacted. It was not scheduled on a Max 8 but any juggling of schedules could impact just about any AA flight.

From the AA website:

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/23/2020 07:14 PM

I don't know, I read that to mean that they were going to dump everything through June 3, on January 19. I have been slammed this week, so really have not even thought about calling them.
Posted By: ruralcarrier

Re: American Airlines Max - 01/23/2020 08:44 PM

One can read it a couple of ways.

A couple of the airline CEO's were just on TV, even early June/July does not sound like it will happen now.
