Thanks. Yes, I just saw that. I expect they will continue to extend it, week by week, so it will still be in effect by when we arrive..

Who knows what to think/believe anymore. The Brits decided to open-wide in mid summer rather than delay til fall when it gets cold/wet. This Delta variant is going to make its mark. Better to do now than dead of winter which SXM doesnt really have.

When does this end, the zebra/zeta variant?

The COVID numbers for St Martin improved, slightly, but not greatly. No change in the curfew.
The COVID numbers for St Barth improved greatly. The curfew was lifted. Now the Prefet is talking about a "Pass Sanitarire", a vaccine passport as in France, beginning in mid-September.
The prospect of a Pass Sanitaire is not being well received by some on St Barth.

I think that the Pass Sanitaire is a great way to document that you have been vaccinated BUT there has to be a simple way to get it.....not so right now

Effective today, the French-side Curfew has been bumped to 9PM-5AM. An extra hour for a French-side dinner isn't all that I want, but it's a start.

Yes, a small improvement.

The French-side curfew has been extended until September 17.

No surprise. It'll keep being extended week by week until it's under control.

Daily Herald story

Same hours, 9 PM to 5 AM. Somewhat early for dinner on the French side, but doable.

Exactly!! It was mind blowing watching those games but we have to wear masks to buy our groceries!!! My son was interning for the weekend at the Boulder - Texas A&M game. Praying he’s fine!! Won’t be back to CT until almost midnight tonight.

NOT addressing the US question, but being able to enjoy dinner on the French side, 9 PM versus 8 PM is a big difference.

Re: Curfew on French side - 09/13/2021 10:33 AM

IMHO, the extra hour is a little help, but still sending a message. People of the French side must get out and get vaccinated in order for the numbers to go down. 9 pm is when most of the restaurants are just getting started! Restaurant owners will keep the push going in order to keep there business a float!! IMHO.

As someone who was just there, I agree. That extra hour would have kept us from rushing thru our dinner to get home.

I am hopeful people are getting vaccinated, but I saw too much hesitancy when I was down there last month. I've lost family members on the French and Dutch side - one really close relative was practically a shut in and her nurse - her NURSE - told her she didn't need to get the vaccine because "she didn't go anywhere". Well, Covid makes house calls, and her unvaxxed kid gave it to her and she passed. There are real lives behind these numbers, real trauma for those left behind. I hope it's enough to spur people into getting vaxxed, for health and safety, but yes, also for the economy.

Angelface--sorry to hear about your relatives. Sad that your relative got bad advice from someone who should definitely know better.

Re: Curfew on French side - 09/13/2021 03:09 PM

I think the hour is symbolic rubbish that hurts people and does nothing to stop the virus.
If it was a true help, then shut down at 6pm and really make a dent.

Pay people $100 dollars to get each shot $200 for two does. They will line up in droves.

Re: Curfew on French side - 09/13/2021 03:24 PM

Shouldn't have to pay people to protect themselves and others.

Hi Carol and Eric!! When are you going? We are thinking beginning of November. We had to cancel our August trip because my mom was not well.

Re: Curfew on French side - 09/25/2021 02:10 AM

Carol, I can only remember one night in the last ten years of island visits when I was out after 10PM. I don’t do clubs or casinos, and I’m usually home by 10PM at the latest, with a quiet nightcap and the night sky for entertainment. 11PM gives me a LOT of latitude.

If the numbers continue to improve then I have hopes for a complete removal of the curfew in the next few weeks.

Last week’s French side count of new cases was 54, an improvement from 84 cases in the previous week, which is what allowed the curfew change.

I’m with you all the way, Bahston. We are usually in by ten at the latest and occasionally, well spent from a day of sunshine, we’re sometimes already asleep by eleven. Wow ! I hate to admit that……
