Sunset Cafe at GCBC

Sunset Cafe at GCBC - 10/04/2021 11:32 AM

We have apparently never been here, that we remember. So thinking about checking it out. If we have to park outside the gate, how far a walk is it to the restaurant?

Depends on how close to the gate you find a parking place. From the gate, it's probably the length of a football field. Steep decline going in, which means steep incline coming out.

Ok thanks for the info. Unless we can convince them to let us in, we probably won't be going there..

Depending on how far back you go, Farol, you may have been there when it was called WAVES at the Grand Case Beach Club but that’s going waaaay back.

I think we were there a long time ago and looked at the grounds, but never ate at the restaurant. I'm sure it must be very good now, since Marina is there. I think we will try to get in and if not, will go eat somewhere at one of the big restaurants on Orient.

We tried to get in last May. They told us to park outside, put on our masks, and they would open the gate to let us in. We turned around and went to Spiga. Had a great meal!

I've never personally been that enthused with Spiga, but that's probably just me. I will go somewhere that's on the water, regardless.

We visited Sunset Cafe twice in February....once for lunch and another for dinner. We didn't have any trouble parking near the gate and the process to get in was easy. I suppose that it could be a bit challenging for less mobile patrons due to the incline. We enjoyed the food and view both times and intended to go back in when we were there in July but somehow never made it. The walkways and resting spots around the perimeter of the point are awesome!

Southbound--yes, that's the point, I don't really walk very well for any distance.

The walk from the gate to the restaurant is NOT 100 yards. Less than half I would say.

I agree it's hardly the length of a football field, although it is steep. Perhaps you could tell them you have a problem walking that far, Carol, and maybe they'll let you in. It's such a beautiful view on the water!

Carol, I totally agree with your opinion on Spiga.

pony--well, we decided it just wasn't to be!! smile We got to Grand Case and tried to go down that way and the street was blocked and there was a huge HOLE in the middle of the street. Got to the corner where Bistrot Cariabes is and wanted to try to make a break for it the wrong way and there was a CONCRETE TRUCK coming toward us. SOO, rather than trying to enter by the airport and probably be told no, we went to Orient. The only things that were open were Orange Fever, Chez Leandra and one other of the lolos, I assume the Perch, and LaPlaya. So we went to LaPlaya. It wasn't bad..

Well, "it wasn't bad" isn't much of a recommendation! smile

Hi Carol,

Hopefully it's not too late to give Sunset Cafe another try. It's such a beautiful spot. We stay at the club so we've never had to park outside, if you have mobility issues, there is a 2nd gate, which we always use to walk to dinner and come back, down by the old tennis court (which they are in the process of converting to a hurricane shelter.) Perhaps ask them if they would open that gate for you, to make it easier. That makes the walk to the restaurant slightly longer, but it's flat, no incline, and if you choose so you can walk on the sidewalk that faces Grand Case Beach.

We have been allowed to park down near the restaurant once when the street was pretty filled up, and I am pretty sure that they would let you at least come down to drop off a person that has mobility issues.

Sunset Cafe is in my top three for a place to eat and relax on a beach for the day. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Yes, Linda not exactly a glowing recommendation. With only 8 days altogether here, not sure we will have another opportunity to go over there..

We were at Orient today as well. We chose Orange Fever. Very delicious pizza, very reasonable.
