Areas to avoid

Every city/area has places to avoid. I live in a small town and some places are best avoided.

What are the areas you would hesitate to go to?

Just about everywhere just now as our numbers are going crazy all over. We are back to self isolation as many around us are getting sick and sadly not getting tested.

Personally, we're fully-vaccinated and boosted, so wouldn't feel the need to avoid any of the areas we usually go on the island. That said, we don't frequent casinos, or indoor bars late in the evening when they're crowded, even before Covid. Most restaurants are outdoors, so we feel safe there.

It's changed a LOT since you were here 6 weeks ago.

I understand, but still don't think I'd change my behavior.

Meant more crime/safety. Not worried about virus

I do not advise you to go much of ANYWHERE after midnight. In general, do not go into non-tourist areas, especially after dark. Due to the recent issues there, I personally would not go to Sandy Ground ANY time of the day and I would avoid Orleans at night. I would go to Marigot during the day, but not after night. Pay attention to your surroundings, do not carry a lot of cash. Do not wear lots of jewelry. Ladies should not carry a purse except for a very small clutch. Do not drive drunk.

i agree with Carol 100 percent. Was going to say stay out of Marigot at night, along with stay out of Sandy Ground at night also. I have always said, keep your fancy jewelry locked up or even better, leave it at home!! Don't get all dressed up, and leave your ''sunday best'' for another time. Don't make yourself a target.

Unfortunately, some internet sites as well as well meaning contributors continue to minimize the importance of caution regarding Covid or crime in SXM. They feel that accurate and truthful accounts need to be "adjusted" so that potential visitors don't change their SXM vacation plans. We, as others have chosen to believe that "this, too shall pass" and prepare for a less risky return. We enjoy seeing trip reports and updates from those that have chosen to return now.

Tom--again, the original poster's question did NOT have to do with Covid at all.
