You are correct! The island was formerly known as Bergen Island.
Many moons ago it fell under Sweden-Norway deal, which I do not understand.

The shot was taken on our first sail charter in July of 1989. The boat, Rising Sun, was destroyed months later during Hurricane Hugo (Sept 89)
From my understanding it was at Yacht Haven in front of the old Ramada Inn. (also gone)

Quick update on how we are playing.

The person in control of the thread (right now Jeannius) will post the picture.
Kinda on the honor system no Google until 18 hours after the post was originally posted.
This is because we have people from all over playing and on different work shifts.

The poster will give hints if no one gets it after some period of time to keep the game moving.

If you guess right you post the next picture.
If you have problems posting pictures shoot me a PM and I can help you, but it is easy.

Remember if it has to be a picture you posted. Oh yeah make sure change the name of the picture if it says where it is taken.
For example SXM19-001 would make it pretty easy to guess.

Mike--I do not know if it would make any difference, but you can try to upload the photo to one of our image galleries. I assume what you did was use the 'image' tag and the photo is stored somewhere else on the internet, and the quality of the image there---wherever it's stored--isn't the best. Perhaps it would be better if you upload it directly to TTOL, I don't know.

Correc Correct. The statue in the earlier photo, if you could see at the original resolution, had the letters BEZ visible. It was probably pretty much impossible without seeing that.

We rented a canal boat for 4 weeks and did the entire Canal du Midi and Canal de Garonne last year. The locks were a fun experience and a great piece of engineering.

16 years between visits; cruise stop then pre-sail trip. I Would still like to go back again. This from on the walk to Oia....your kind of hike Rick! We took a ferry to Mykonos from here, then 7-night sail a few days later from Athens.

The views from the castle the powerful Scaligeri family built were amazing, even though the castle felt like it was "sinking" beneath our feet!

Very close now so I declare BEERMAN the winner. It is actually the Manihi Pearl Resort on Manihi in the Tuamoto Archipelago but I don't think anyone would get it unless they've actually been there. Also, it is made harder by the fact it has been closed since 2012. I didn't know that when posting the photo.

If you do want a really get away from it all, do nothing other than laze and, snorkel and dive then I thoroughly recommend the Tuamoto's. We also went to Fakarava which is an incredible place for divers, providing you like sharks!

Sailed under it on our final cruise before selling Jeannius. Much more pleasant going under that bridge than the following 65 ft bridges in the ICW with my 65ft mast

ha! I saw a video where someone had attached huge water balls off the mast to heal over.....my balls aren't big enough! How did you manage the ICW?

Carefully! It wasn't too bad. In areas were there was a decent tidal range, we just went under bridges at low tide. When there wasn't much of a tidal range, ie Morehead City, we went outside. We did have a bit of a problem around Roanoake where, if the tide was low enough to get under the bridge, then the charts said there wasn't enough water to float. Fortunately it had been recently dredged and we made it.

We did have a real problem in the Dismal Swamp Canal and lost our vhf antenna and wind instruments to a bridge. I'm pretty certain that we caught something hanging below the bridge as there was no reason for that bridge to be lower than the one twenty yards earlier that we passed under without a problem.

Is that your home town the place nobody can get the sauce name right, my guess comes from reading one of your blogs and the age or the look of age of the picture.

You've got it. Where I live now in the UK but not my place of birth which is rather more well known. I took it off my profile but the blog gives it away. The sauce was going to be my second clue, the first being that the river flowing between the cricket ground and the cathedral has the same name as the river flowing into the Chesapeake, just near the bridge in the previous photo. Shall we let it run to see if anyone else can get it or do you want to claim it?

Absolutely Beerman, I lived in New Bern for over eighteen years. I meet my wife there back in 1991 and we still have strong ties in New Bern. Lawyers, Realtors, and even know the administrator of the hospital. He was in our wedding! That looks like a race track for open wheeled race cars. The yellow boxes are the car placement, but where in the heck is it, and the over grown stands and what appears to be a soccer field has me stumped.

Carol you are correct - Nuremberg Zeppelin Field where the major Nazi rallies in the 30s were held.

I stood at that platform and I can honestly tell you I could sense evil. I have been to many memorials and historic places and been moved, but never never have I felt evil.
And not sure I could even describe it today. I was very uncomfortable to stand in a place where the worst of the human race chanted.

TravelHat it has been used for formula track finish point, but not in many a year and also a HS soccer field.

The amphitheater structure was falling into ruins, and when I was there they were debating what to do restore or destroy.
