Received 2 shots of vaccine - 02/01/2021 08:44 PM

Just wondering will there be any advantage I know we still have to be careful and social distance and wear a mask , but will it be of help getting to and leaving SXM

You will still have to have all the required paperwork. And pay for the Covid insurance. Until a good half the world is vaccinated, my guess is that what it would take to relax some of the requirements.

Dick--good for you. Wish I could have any clue as to when we will receive even the first shot.

As of now, having the shots makes NO difference on entry into SXM.

I read in the Portland paper today that those who have been vaccinated are getting a high percentage of false positives.

I am jealous of you first shot people...and...Carol....just curious but did you put your name on the "notify me" list that FL has set up (by county). Is that just lipstick on the situation or does it work? We will be in FL for three months and qualify as seasonal residents so we WERE planning on using that as one source.

I have had both of the Pfizer shots. No side effects on the first and minimal side effects on the second. I hope having proof of getting the vaccine will alleviate some of the travel restrictions soon.

Re: Received 2 shots of vaccine - 02/02/2021 02:05 PM

boucharda--I am on FOUR different waiting lists, including the Florida one, which they just set up, as well as periodically calling one place where some clients of mine were able to luck into shots, just by being at the right place at the right time. Other than my mother in law, who is in a nursing home, and who by the way, has had only ONE of her shots, just a week ago, they are the only ones I know of that have gotten even one shot, around here. And no, there are no Publix within 150 miles of here that are offering shots.

And since this is not about the original topic anymore, moving it to People Talk

Good to hear that, Jaybird. Got my initial Pfizer inoculation yesterday with zero side effects. Okay, maybe a little tired that evening but nothing that unusual. Nice to see so many people now getting vaccinated. I feel like I got a "get of out jail free" card playing Monopoly! Been trying to help friends and relatives sign-up and get on waiting lists when they pop up. Shouldn't be this much of a struggle for so many people.

Re: Received 2 shots of vaccine - 02/02/2021 03:06 PM

Sammy--it has been a freaking nightmare here. I am on four different waiting lists, and have no idea where I am on the list in any of them, and no contact from any of them since I got on the list. The only people that I know that have gotten even the first shot around here, just lucked into getting their shots when they did. Meanwhile our governor says that 30% of seniors have gotten shots.. BS..

I don't know what is going on here, but our county is getting the short end of the stick, as far as dosages, versus our population, getting about half of what we should be getting apparently. If I had some CLUE about when I might get it, I wouldn't be so freaked out.

Re: Received 2 shots of vaccine - 02/02/2021 04:01 PM

It really is a national disgrace with this vaccine rollout. There is much blame to go around, but as I stated previously all you can do is stay online and try to connect with as many COVID vaccine websites as possible. I can't help but think about those senior citizens who don't possess the computer 'online' savvy like those younger than them. My 99 year old aunt got COVID in a high end nursing home here in Pennsylvania, but fortunately beat it and is doing okay at the present time. I do know that Pfizer and Moderna are now pumping out vaccines at break neck pace, and Johnson & Johnson & Novavax will be coming out soon, maybe by mid-February. Does the drug store chain Rite Aid operate in Florida? Here in NW PA, they had an online sign-up going strong earlier this week and I was able to send this information to several of my closest friends who now have appointments scheduled for various dates throughout February (starting 2/11). But, it got filled up and is now closed.

What should have been done? Strictly my personal opinion, but back in October when Phase III trials were showing impressive efficacy numbers, production should have skyrocketed at that time even though FDA approval had not yet been given. As a nation, a national vaccine program should have been established regardless of cost by the Office of Health and Human Services. Throughout the states, counties with population numbers of 250,000 or greater should have had designated locations authorized as 'mass vaccination centers' with structured guidelines should have been created and released. For example, "senior citizens age 65 and over if your last name begins with 'A' or 'B' these are your two calendar dates." Then onto those seniors with last names of 'C' or 'D'. Just come to the vaccination centers at the designated times with proper I.D. and you'll get vaccinated. For rural locations, mobile vaccination units could have been utilized to inoculate small town America. Not that this would have been perfect, but it would have to be better than the mess we are now dealing with. But, in reality this was a presidential election year and unfortunately the focus wasn't on vaccinations, but rather election polls.

Hopefully, this will be lesson learned for the future. And, it is fortunate that COVID-19, as bad as it is, does not have a higher mortality rate percentage-wise. If this had been as lethal as MERS or Ebola, then a national disgrace would have turned into a national tragedy.

Sammy--I do not see how you can NOT call Covid a national tragedy, based on close to 450,000 deaths, climbing soon to a half million.

COVID-19 is indeed a national tragedy. I was referring to the vaccine rollout and lack of a national plan by calling this a disgrace.

Thanks. Only discomfort was taking band aid of this morning. Slight stiffening at injection site. No worse than a typical flu vaccine. Hoping second shot will be the same. I'll know in three weeks.

Our friends in NC got their second shots of Pfizer last week. No adverse reactions for them both other than sore arms. Get our second on 22nd and will report how it goes.

Carol, we can't even sign ANY lists here in RI. Now I just read that along with the entire city of Central Falls including the jail, they vaccinated the state prison yesterday in Cranston. Stay is saying Feb 23 to sign up.

Re: Received 2 shots of vaccine - 02/10/2021 01:08 PM

our state health dept. has a post that reads that once vaccinated you will still have to social distance, wear masks because the vaccine does not immunize you from the virus but instead makes you less vulnerable. Symptoms will be lessened should you come in contact and contract it. You can still transmit the virus should you contract it. That's why masking. And they suspect vaccination will be a needed yearly.

This doesn't sound like any of the hoops we must jump to travel will go away anytime soon.
