reaction to covid vaccination

Has anyone experienced a reaction to their covid vaccinations?

My husband broke out in a rash on right side of face. Rash turned into blisters, which popped and is now scabbed. Doctor said to see eye doctor because rash is close to eye to check for nerve damage.

Our neighbor has swollen nymph nodes and fever of 102.

Fortunately, I have no symptoms (at the moment).

Sorry to hear that. I assume that was the second shot? We had basically no reaction at all, other than feeling a little 'blah' for a day or two. Best wishes.

Yes, the 2nd shot. We both felt a little woozy at the beginning; staggering . Now this!

We both had the Pfizer vaccine and had same reactions that Carol had. Just a little blah next day for awhile. What kind did you both have.

Are you sure it was a reaction to the vaccine? That sounds a lot like shingles.

I will fifth that on sounds like shingles. Did he have a shingles shot in the past?

My husband and I had the Pfizer in February and neither of us had reactions on either shot. I had friends and one of my doctors that had the Moderna/Pfizer and experienced extreme sluggishness for a day. At first I worried that the shots did not work for my husband and me, but I got over it. Now I am a happy camper.

As a point of reference, my wife had the original Shingles vaccine and promptly had two cases of Shingles after it. A vaccine is NOT the cure-all some make it out to be.
She also had the Moderna Covid vaccine and had a bad 18 hours after the second shot.

My wife and I both had the original shingles shot and both of the new shingles series. Glad we did.

I have sores on the left side of my face. I hardly go out except to the food store. Maybe it is shingles? Trying not to pick the scabs or it will scar. If it is not one thing it is another.

Seen a Dr.? If not I would go for sure.

I had the original single dose shingles vaccine about 8 years ago. When I went for my annual wellness visit in September 2020, my Doctor said the new Shingles vaccine is two doses, and he suggested I get them. I did. HOWEVER be advised that Medicare does not pay for the Shingles vaccine, so it cost me $160 out of pocket. I am glad I got the newest one, even though I had to pay for it.
As far as the Covid vaccine, my Wife and I both received the Pfizer (2 dose), and the only reaction was very mild tenderness at the injection site for both of us. Same reaction for the second shot also. Thankfully no major reactions to either shot for either of us.

Both my wife and I had original and the two newer shingles shots. All were paid through Medicare. Maybe your doctor made some extra side money.

I was surprised at the statement that Medicare wouldn't pay for the new shingles shot. I have been thinking about getting it at Walgreen's, even though we had the old one. May check with them..

I got mine at Walgreen's, not my Doctor's Office. I was surprised to get a bill from them, especially since I have a Plan F Supplemental through AARP United Healthcare with my Medicare. When I called UHC, they said they don't pay it, and upon checking with Medicare (after waiting 40 minutes on the phone), they told me that Medicare does not pay for the Shingles vaccine.
The Shingles vaccine (single dose) I received 8 years ago was paid by my Police Dept. Hospitalization Plan which was United Healthcare at that time. Why they (UHC) doesn't pay for it now is beyond me.

Could it be the difference in where we reside? Different Insurance coverage due to State of residence? Doesn't make any sense to me, I thought I would be covered. Why wouldn't an Insurance company want the patients to get the vaccines to prevent the Shingles??

Good question. When we first inquired if it would be covered we were told no but submitted it anyway and it was covered. Go figure.

When I got the single shot Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) paid, because it was before I retired. I got the updated double shot after retirement. So, Medicare B paid since BCBS is now my secondary. I got the shots at my Wegman grocery store pharmacy with no problem whatsoever. Maybe it is different depending on what Medicare you may have.

When I turned 60 I gave myself the shingles vaccine for my birthday present to myself since none of the cost was covered by health plans then. $300. But I had the worse double dose of chicken pox as a child so I didn't want to risk shingles. Now I'm told I have to get a booster and you're saying it won't be covered? What was the cost?

Medicare does not cover shingles vaccine however, part D prescriptions DOES. So whatever prescription plan is that you have, that's the card you should be presenting when getting the shot example: I have Express Scripts. I must present that # just as I did for a tetanus shot.

Also as of 2018 United Health Care does cover shingles vaccine to age 50 plus at no charge.

I have a friend who had a similar reaction, not on the face, but the rash extended from the vaccine site down her arm. She got some medical cream from her doctor and it went away after a week. They said it was a reaction from the Moderna vaccine. These reactions are rare, but can happen with all vaccines depending on the person. Everyone is different and will repond differently to our body chemistry. Hope your husband will feel better soon.
