Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 08/13/2015 07:05 PM

I've seen it, been in the lobby (to cool off) but not seen any rooms. For an overnight, pre or post charter stay it's probably fine.

The restaurant is reasonably priced and has good breakfasts, standard lunch and dinner fare. Sunday, and Sunday only, they have a good Eggs Bennie until 11a.

Another near-by option is the Tamarind Club, about 10 minutes. It's quirky but they have a nice pool (nicer than Hodges Creek), a swim up bar, a relaxed atmosphere, Big Trivia night for the locals on Fridays, decent rooms (nothing special) and a very good menu with local items. We liked it. You just have to prepare yourself for an adventure (no check in, just go to the bar and relax, get your free welcome cocktail, talk to who ever is at the bar, you're room will be ready soon enough kind of thing).

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 08/13/2015 07:16 PM

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. We usually stay one night in CGB, but thought it might be easier to stay right at the marina since we are leaving the next morning from DYC. This way we could wheel our luggage out of the hotel and down to the boat, without getting another cab. We will not be in until Saturday late afternoon or early evening and get the boat on Sunday morning.

We have stayed at Tarmind, we love it there, but was trying to avoid another cab ride.

Thanks

Coleen, you will indeed be able to roll your bags right from the hotel to the boat. It's really convenient.

This was my first charter with DYC. Bought owners time from a fellow who has his boat with them. I liked it. Marine Max and the Catamaran Company are also on the docks there.

Jean Oliver (JO) is the dock master. He's great. Very French. We had a few minor problems on day three of our recent 14d, brought the boat back and it was fixed in 2h. Hung out at the restaurant, checked email and had breakfast.

The administrative staff is welcoming and all of them are sweeties. They'll do anything for you, just ask. More sheets, or towels, another French Press ..... no problem.

Also, if you're bringing anything frozen check with them before 5p if you can when you arrive and ask if you can put your stuff in the boat's freezer. If the boat is on the dock, they are very accommodating.

I have my own check list which I ran through just before the check out. The dinghy was a little ruff. Got that replaced in a heart beat. Entire staff is very customer oriented and responsive. I left a $20 in the tip jar in the main office at the end of the charter. They were thrilled.

The fuel dock gets a little busy if you are returning on a Saturday/Sunday. My advice is to fuel up in Spanish Town or Soper's if either of those places work out for late stops on your itinerary. That way you avoid all that. It's also cheaper. Diesel is expensive at Hodges. Over $5 per if I remember correctly but don't quote me on that. Turning space is limited inside the channel and around the docks. With a lot of boats meandering waiting to fuel, it can get tricky. I'm not proud, I called JO entering the channel and asked him to bring the boat in. He was there in a flash. No stress to end a great 2w charter!

All around, great experience. Are you on a Cat or a Mono? Boat Name?

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 08/14/2015 12:05 PM

Thanks for the helpful information. This is will be our 20th bareboat trip, but the first with DYC. We are also using owners time and have the boat for 2 weeks. We will be on a 45' Cat named Cat Jack II. We usually have the boat for 10 days, then stay in a villa for 3 nights, we are looking forward to spending more time on the boat.

Do you know the name of the hotel? I can not seem to find anything online. When I google Hodges Creek hotel, it takes me to Treasure Isle, that is in Roadtown?

With having owners time, did they let you on the boat earlier then the 5:00 stated on the contract?

Thanks again.

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 08/14/2015 04:32 PM

It's called Hodges Creek Marina hotel. The reviews on trip advisor are not good. We have chartered twice with DYC and checked out the hotel. Uh, no way!! It's so worth a cab ride. Colin is the driver for DYC and he's wonderful.
We have been desperate and tried dinner at the marina. It's typical frozen food warmed up.
So many better choices for hotel and food!! Enjoy!!

Coleen, despite the comments above, I'd give them a try. It's a bed and a shower and its right there. I did not find the food at the restaurant objectionable. Just nothing special. There are NOT a lot of alternatives in East End.

Re early boarding using owners time. You are received and treated like a regular DYC charterer. The posted boarding time is 5p. Just check with them. If they can do it, they'll help you out.

The most recent Trip Advisors review (June, 2015)would make my mind up in a flash!

[color:"red"]I travelled here as part if a sports team- the rooms had mould growing at AC vent, the water supply was frequently turned off and wifi was sketchy to non existent.
The staff both at reception and in the restaurant were super rude and unhelpful. The restaurant always had more than half of it's menu not available. Would not recommend anyone to stay here unless you are desperate to stay close to marina![/color]

Hi Colleen... What type of cat are you on? We are planning a big celebration in the South Pacific in a few years time and it'll likely be with Dream Yachts as they allow travel to the Tuamotu Islands (our favourite from the round the world trip). They mainly seem to have Catanas down there so I'll be very interested to hear if you are on one of those.

Colleen, you will love the Lagoon 450. We have rented 2 from DYC and this Oct we are getting a 2016 from TMM. They are so roomy and easy to sail. You will love the gathering area in the front. Great place for happy hour. Plus the flybridge is large enough for 8 of us to sit and chat with the Captain or party all night!! Enjoy!!

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 08/17/2015 08:42 PM

I also have a 2015 Lagoon 450 chartered from the Catamaran Company in January. So I look forward to your trip report about Hodges Creek and the yacht! Thank you so much!

Just found out we are being switched to a 2015 Catana Bali 4.5. Anyone know anything about this boat?
Posted By: Jeannius

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 09/11/2015 07:34 AM

Hi Colleen... The Bali is Catana's cheaper, slower, range built specially for the charter market. Haven't been aboard one but from the website http://www.bali-catamarans.com/bali-catamarans-en/bali-4-5 they look perfectly suited to the BVI.

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 09/11/2015 12:20 PM

It looks pretty nice, I like the big sun loungers instead of the trampolines. It looks like a comfortable boat. I will take that over speed on vacation. We race here all the time. Slowing down on vacation doesn't bother me.

Looks like it has a full size side by side refrigerator/freezer (with an ice maker), dishwasher, garbage compactor and a water maker. Lots of things to go wrong....LOL

You're not paying for the maintenance Colleen so just enjoy the experience and leave the worrying to the owner <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Hodges Creek Marina - 09/11/2015 08:48 PM

Hi Collen,

To answer your question about the hotel ... it is owned by the same fellow who owns Treasure Isle, which is why the website goes directly to Treasure Isle's website. No very user friendly as their website doesn't well you that, but it is what it is. You book through Treasure Isle.

Can't tell you anything about it. Haven't been in the rooms at all. Sorry.
