Trellis Bay Questions

Will be down on July 20th for a week. We were planning to go from Willy T to Leverick but now we need to pick up a crew member flying into EIS. I've never been to Trellis and never really had much desire. I'm assuming since our crew member doesn't get in until 4pm on her flight that we will be overnighting there. Right? No way to grab her and head over to Loverick if it's say, 5pm by the time she gets on the boat? So, is there anything to know about Trellis? Underwater obstructions since the storms? Mooring balls in good shape and plentiful? Anything to do there besides walk around the art galleries? Are we able to dinghy over to the beach near the air port and walk up to the terminal to meet our crew or some other arrangement. I am sort of looking forward to nothing to do that night since it will be after the Willy T! Won't be there during a full moon unfortunately.

You can dinghy to the dock at Trellis Market and walk to the airport from there. There was a black fender marking a submerged tree, but hopefully it'll be gone by the time you're there. Another alternative would be to go pick up a ball at Marina Cay.

We used Scrub marina to drop the crew off: they offer free water taxi to airport, and I assume from as well. It was very nice and we even stayed a second night there. It is not a Willy T, rather opposite to it, but we liked it nevertheless. The good thing is if their flight is late you dont have to hang arounf Trellis bay which looks pretty depressing right now relati e to all other places at BVI

So if sunset is about 6:50pm and we got underway by 5pm, could we make it to Leverick Bay from Trellis on a 433 power cat or would it be pushing it? Really rather spend the time in Leverick.

You should be able to make it to Leverick on power cat if the flight will be on time. Who you are chartering with? MarineMax has their base at Scrub right now.

I had to anchor at Leverick last week. I got there around 3-4 I think it was. I bet by late July that you'll be fine on mooring ball availability.

I am more worried about getting there before sunset. Would two hours be plenty of time from Trellis or cutting it too close? Didn't even think about mooring ball availability! I'm usually settled in by early after noon so this would be out of the norm for me to head somewhere that late.

I'm on a Moorings 433pc. Guess I could hang out at Scrub or maybe even Cooper. Just not thrilled about Trellis from recent reviews especially since I won't even be there for a Full Moon Party.

You can reserve the berth at Leverick by contacting Nick. Just let him know you will be late. 2 hours should be fine on powercat

You can make it to Leverick from Trellis with no problem in late July. You will have a good 2 hours of daylight left and easy trip over. I would just make a reservation on a slip just to secure a spot. If you figure a mooring ball at Leverick is $30 and you run the generator all night you are looking at a cost of around $68. A slip with power will cost you $70 and save on the fuel.

Speaking of Trellis Bay, how are the full moon parties since Irma?

Easy run in 433PC, I know as I own one. about 12 miles to the entrance of the NS. Key is either a slip or mooring ball, with anchor is option and the back of the mooring field. It have been pretty crowded there for mooring ball since it one of the few places in NS and it is also one of the best.

Looks to be about an 12 NM trip between the airport and Leverick around Mosquito Pt. (what Burge said)

Just how fast can those power cats go?

We didn't go, but were at Trellis the day after the last one and were told that it was the best one since Irma. There were a good many boats still in Trellis mid morning the day after.

Trellis ball availability wasn't that great, but was probably due to the FMP.

Also, there were a good many cut pendants at Leverick, which also contributed to me anchoring.

From Hog Heaven I could see that no one was moored at Saba/BEYC. I guess maybe they're removed those balls. There were people anchored at the point on Prickly Pear where the restaurant is/was. I guess that was the overflow from Leverick.

Was there the first week of May and did a slow cruise through BEYC and Saba. The moorings are still in place at BEYC but missing pendants and not intended to be used. The balls at Saba are all in place and seemed to be in good condition with pendants. The morning we were there Saba was mostly full.

We had our 514PC up to 19 knts. Burning some fuel though, however I cruise at 2200 RPMs with a speed of slightly under 10 knts. Plenty of time to make the 12 NM trip with a nice sunset and drink in hand on the dock.

MarineMax has moved their base to Nanny Cay.

I think they use both places: when I was there 2 weeks ago there were 3 MarineMax cats at Scrub going through check out process

I saw a sign for MM at Scrub last week too. There were 3 MM power cats in slips. One was partying down, complete with nekkid women running around and a guy talking loudly on his cell phone while being broken up with by his gf. The dockmaster kept having to tell them to turn down the music. It was a circus. When you go to the Willy T, you expect the Willy T. When you go to a slip on Scrub, you don't expect the Willy T to show up...but it did.

I guess you can take a guy out off trailer park, but you cannot take trailer park out off a guy..:) Thankfully it was much more respectable when I was there

MarineMax MAIN base moved from Scrub to Nanny Cay recently according to my MarineMax contact. We're scheduled for a late June into July trip and were originally going to go out of Scrub. We can still do that, but they would send the boat from Nanny with just a captain to brief and check us out. Our contact felt it would be best to go from Nanny, since if there was a problem with the boat discovered during checkout, their full contingent would be available to make it right.

Since our previous 4 trips thru the Moorings required various amounts of adjustments (dead generator battery, inop windlass), as well as missing small items (towels, sufficient rope, an ice chest), we decided to go out of Nanny to be on the safe side. Maybe MarineMax is more thorough than the Moorings but we don't want to take the chance...

If you push off on time, which rarely happens, and if you use the cut between Moskito and VG, and if you call ahead and get a slip all will work out.

It looks better than Trellis Bay, and it's much less expensive than
Scrub Island.

The ferry from Trellis Bay that goes to Scrub MAY still stop at Marina Cay??

Stayed at Marina Cay two nights ago. Moorings were good. Ice, food and drinks available on the island. Small gift shop open in the house at the top of the hill. The ferry does stop at Marina Cay.

Does anyone know if there are working washer / dryers at Trellis or Marina Cay? Thanks, Andy

Yes. All of them were working great in August. Need tokens from the front office.

As of last week, Marina Cay was closed, although I hear Earl is still staying out there. I didn’t see him, and didn’t go check the washers. The Trellis market laundromat is gone.

I'm sorry. I don't know how I did it but I completely misread that post. I was referring to Leverick. Kindly disregard my stupidity.
