Is 7 days enough

We are looking to do a bareboat bvi tour in december. Flights are more expensive than i expected so now trying to decide on some things. Is 7 nights enough to do the boat portion? Obviously more would be better but thats what is in the budget right now so trying to decide if we hold off a year or just go with the 7 nights. thanks yall

Suggest 7 days boat and 7 days land..

Given the choice between 7 days and waiting a year, I'd go with option 1 all day long. One thing you might consider is chartering out of St. Thomas (and I'd particularly recommend Waypoints), where the flights are both FAR cheaper and the schedules more flexible. In that case, you might look at a 9 day charter (Friday to Sunday). It really is a breeze to get from the USVI to the BVI from Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas. Additionally, it will afford you a very convenient way to spend a day or two on St. John, either at the beginning or end of your charter.

When in December are you considering? Christmas week is the busiest and most expensive of the entire year. Early December may still be off-season with some companies. Airfares are generally much higher at Christmas as well.

There are a number of tips for saving on airfare. Try booking early Tuesday morning and traveling midweek. Check to see if two one-way tickets work better than round-trip, as schedules may work better in one direction. Buy all your flights on one ticket to avoid problems caused by flight delays or cancellations. If you travel through STT, be sure to include the cost of taxis and ferries (including baggage) which have risen.

Where are you coming from? We are on the west coast and usually have to dedicate two days to get there and a full day return - with more connections delays are more likely as well and can potentially add a full day to the travel time. And then it usually takes a day or two to adjust to the time difference. For us it's a tough trip for just a week. That said, if it was my only option I'd still go.

If on the east coast or certain mid-west cities I think a week is more approachable since it takes much less time to get down and the time change isn't as significant. Especially if flying out of a major city with direct flights to STT or SJU.

7 day sailing with overnight on board first night makes 8. We overnight after getting off boat as well. Makes for a 10 day vacation.

Longer is better!

we are in georgia so direct flights on delta to st thomas (but for 7 of us- we have 5 kids- thats over 10k that was a bit surprising). planning to fly in a day early and either do sleep aboard or hotel (depending on when would land if it would be too late for ferry).

Waypoints only does sailboats and we need power. Since georgia has direct flights we are thinking to fly into st thomas the day before. not sure if we can sleep aboard since ferries stop running and I don't want to be panicked trying to get to the ferry in time. But atleast we can take an early one the next day. we are thinking december 15th. limited on when since kids are in school.

On a power cat, you'l be able to enjoy a 7-night charter. I would recommend Marine Max for a power cat. Flying from Atlanta, you'll have good options and can definitely make the afternoon ferries and do a sleep aboard so you can be off the dock first thing the next morning. Don't waste the time, effort or $$s on a hotel, it's better to get onboard and settle in and you won't have to wait for a midday check in to start your first day.

Definitely a no brainer to take the 9:45 Delta Flight then ferry over and do sleep aboard. With a power cat you will have plenty of time. Nanny Cay is a great base to enjoy the first night if you go with Marine Max.

Early afternoon arrivals at STT will easily get you to one of the afternoon ferries to Road Town.
