Coral Bay cab .... for 8.

Coral Bay cab .... for 8. - 11/15/2020 11:06 AM

We are in Salt Pond and love it enough to stay a 2nd night and don't want to lose the ball. But we need ice and a number of other provisions and would love to see Coral Bay. Maybe either lunch or happy hour at Skinny Legs?

Anyone have the name for a cab out of Coral Bay for a crew of 8?Even if it took 2 trips? Google just isn't helping me out. smile

Try giving Busy Bee, the dive shop in Coral Bay, a call. They open early and may have some leads on who to contact - or may be willing to run out and shuttle you by boat if they have availability today (probably not cheap, but a potential option).

I looked up a couple - Star Fish - opens at 1 today - 340-998-6139 and Aqua Blu closes at 5 today - 340-776-2782 Not really much to choose from that I see.
I know why you want to stay in Salt Pond as I was there recently.

Cabs don’t service Coral Bay. STJ cab drivers have a funny way of doing business.

Try Landlubber provisioning service to get stuff delivered. https://landlubberlogistics.com/

Jen Mann’s might be able to help you but it will be $$$ https://explorestj.com/

Thanks for the suggestions!

What we actually did was call Skinny Legs and weirdly someone was in at 8:30am! I asked who they'd recommend and they gave me Owen. Owen was incredibly helpful but was unfortunately off island and couldn't pick us up.

So he gave us his Uncle's # who also was unfortunately unavailable.

When I texted back to Owen about my voicemail for his uncle he sent a # for Wonderful. Mr Wonderful Taxi. Who was exactly that. Picked us up, brought us to Skinny Legs for lunch. Came back to take us to Love Market. Even offered to stop at Dolphin if we didn't get everything we needed. I would highly recommend both Owen and Wonderful if you find yourself on the East end of the island looking for a ride. I don't have the numbers handy while I write this but will try to add them both when I get back on.

That is great news! Please do post as this question comes up on another forum, needing a Coral Bay taxi for land visitors.

There was a time when one needed to beg for a ride to and from Cruz Bay and Maho but when we were there in February 2018, taxis were servicing it regularly.

Irmaria and the Covid shutdowns have given some STJ taxi drivers a different perspective on 'doing business'

@localsailor - and in the long run, that is probably a very good thing for the part of the island economy that relies on tourist dollars. Over the past 25 years, we have had some not great experiences with STJ (and STT) taxi drivers. By 2005, we started reserving a private driver/van on STT.

ligot, I know it has been awhile since your original post, however do you still have the contact numbers for Owen, his uncle, and Mr Wonderful Cabs for Coral Bay? We are headed down in a few weeks and are hopeful to cab from Hanson Bay to Rhumb Lines for dinner.

Coral Bay Taxi: A quick follow up with additional information.

I returned from a USVI charter in April. We spend a couple nights in Salt Pond and we were able to get a cab into Coral Harbor to dine at Rhumb Lines. We had a nice dinner and a great cab experience.
I called the list of numbers that we all shared previously above and I was successful to reach multiple people on the list, but most of these taxis are in Cruz Bay and the North Shore during the day and early evening and not available in the Coral Bay area.
However, each person I spoke with pointed me to another service and I was able to gather some additional contact numbers for other Taxi services.
I spoke with a driver named Max who was very nice and willing to drive out to us from Cruz, as long as we were using him for both legs of our trip. It became a timing issue for us, as we had young kids with us.
Eventually I was pointed to Dawn from Island Vybes Taxi. She is the operator of a new taxi service in Coral Bay exclusively. They have a multi passenger van, I think it held 10-12 people. They answered immediately and we arranged for our return trip as well. We were able to hike up the access road from the Salt Pond beach and they dropped us at the same access road for the short 3 min walk back down to the beach on our return. It was very convenient and I wanted to share the updated Taxi list with you all for needed trips into Coral Bay on your future travels.
I have included Dawn with Island Vybes first as they reported to be exclusive to Coral Bay. She was very nice and prompt on both sides of our trip.

Dawn Island Vybes - 340-643-9671
Kedina Prentice - 340-513-8562
Owen’s Taxi and Tours - 340-626-627
Mr. Wonderful - 340-643-3275 (home number) 340-643-3096 (cell)
Starfish Taxi - 340-998-6139
Max - 340-201-5171
Kenneth Marsh 340-244-9411

I travel to the USVI frequently - not sure I would want to leave my dinghy on the beach at Salt Pond completely unattended while I was in Coral Bay for several hours having dinner but that just me…..

The only place we have left a dinghy completely unattended on STJ (we don’t sail around STT) is Cruz Bay dinghy dock where we lock it. All other places it is in plain sight while we are on the beach. Yes, my perception is that St John is safer than many areas but it still would make me uncomfortable but to each their own.

There is a NPS dock in Great Lameshur Bay. I would be shocked if a taxi were willing to go down that rutted and flooded road.

People frequently lock their dinghies to trees on beaches, especially at Maho. That is against NPS rules, but I have never seen it enforced.
