Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 04:24 PM

I haven't seen this here yet. A great chance to recognize all of your favorites.

I personally voted for Jimbo's, Pizza Galley, Yacht Club and Bacchus every chance I got.

I haven't done that one yet, but I thought this year they were making it so that you could only vote once per email address?

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 04:31 PM

Correct Carol, one verification email address per vote.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 04:32 PM

Carol, That is correct but some of the restaurants fall into more than one category.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 04:58 PM

OK, that is a good change, as far as I'm concerned.

OK.

Yes, keeps people from just loading the vote and not getting more accurate results. I however have four emails addresses so . . . . . . No, I won't!! LOL

well i screwed that one up. Somehow i completed the survey without voting for anything.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 07:09 PM

I unfortunately did the same thing! Nothing showed up under the categories, and when I clicked continue or complete at the bottom of the page, it showed that I finished the survey, and will not let me back in.

To anyone who has yet to click the link, be careful of this. I don't know how you see the list of choices.

exactly!

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 07:36 PM

You have to click one section at a time; if you try to click them all and view them consecutively that doesn't work. Fortunately I figured that out before I entered my email address.

To see the choices, select the button below one of the categories listed and then select "continue" at the bottom of the page. that will then take you to a series of lists about subcategories, I,e. French restaurants, Chinese restaurants, etc. You need to go through each of the different major categories.

A couple of discrepancies: Rare is mentioned several times, they've been closed since last year. They refer to Mama Pizza as Mama's Pizza, a common mistake but could be confusing.

Also list Gondola, and it listed 1 restaurant twice in the same poll. The results are going to be skewed as pollers will just click on what they are familiar with. Has anyone bought a car from all the dealerships listed to make an informed decision on that or for all the hairdressers or from all the hardware stores?

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 08:20 PM

If you finished the survey without actually answering any questions like i did just clear you history, cookies and cache and go back and take it again. Thats what i just did.

Also, maybe i am too honest but if i didnt feel i had enough experience within a certain category i just skipped it so i dont skew the results. I think the car dealership, barber etc questions are for people who live on island and would have more experience

Exactly...

Started to do the survey then stopped, so many of the questions you can't really compare the restaurants listed. l'Escargot and Cheri's in the same catagory for best lunch? If it was me, I would have divided up the island, then made sub groups(cuisine), then by price, then those winners fight it out for best.

Kim
That is what I did. Paged through some of the other categories to see what was there but didn't see much substance in the tally of this survey.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 09:53 PM

Yes, I kind of found the groupings to be wrong. I might go somewhere for lunch, but never for dinner, etc.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 09:58 PM

I did the same.

To redo, in case you clicked all on the first page:
Erase your browser history and clear the cookies for the poll.

Simply go back and resubmit, one page at a time, this time.

Re: Daily Herald Survey - 01/09/2015 11:59 PM

Ok, thanks, that worked! Erasing my browsing history was easy. But finding my "cookies" was another story!! And then I had to know exactly which website it was on the list!! For those of you who are technologically challenged like me, here's how I did it on my MAC:
Go to Safari
Click Preferences
Under Cookies, click Details
Go down the list until you find polldaddy.com, then hit delete

After doing this, I was able to complete the survey. But as others have said, it's not that accurate. Fashion Cafe is listed as well, and it is out of business too.

I'm really surprised that someone from the paper couldn't have figured out a better way to offer this survey -maybe they should have asked a local school class to put it together.

I agree. This is about the worst thought out and laid out survey I have ever seen.
