Horizon Cruise from SXM

Horizon Cruise from SXM - 01/10/2015 10:08 PM

Can we get some reviews of this cruise out of St Maarten? by now, there should be several St Maarteners who have sailed this. Would love to have some info on the excursions in each port also. I've asked the cruise line but they seem to be very secretive about this. I'd love to research my options before we get on the ship.
Thanks all

Don't know when you plan to go but 2015 is supposedly booked up.

I'm pretty sure they are already booked on the ship.

Can't help you with any reviews. I did see the ship leaving from SXM though, not that really helps you any.

Ah, lawyers are sooo perceptive. After reading a little slower this time I agree.
BUT during my cruising days I always found a taxi driver to be my tour guide when arriving at a port. That way I had options of what I wanted to do ( stay longer or shorter time at a site seeing stop).

We go on Jan 26th-will let you know afterwards-I have been reviewing the ports -mostly French - not great reviews -some we've been to years ago seem to have deteriorated big time since, like Martinque, Margarita Island & Guadeloupe. The 2 stops in the DR don't get good reviews either-may just stay on the ship for those. Still can't beat the price.

I am looking forward to reviews! Would love to do that next year..

Looking forward to your report on that cruise. Often, you get what you pay for so if you don't expect everything to be perfect, you will probably enjoy the cruise. There are probably not a ton of balcony suites and activities may be limited, but if the food and drinks are great and the beds are comfortable, it will be a different vacation and convenient departing from SXM.

What is their smoking policy? And please write a trip report upon your return!

I have friends who took this cruise a few years ago and they enjoyed it very much.

As far as I know, they just started this cruise from SXM in December 2014... So, are you saying the same ship, same itinerary, what?

For anyone interested in these cruises, apparently they are NOT sold out for 2015, as there is an ad in the Daily Herald today from a local travel agent, with cabins available on most dates. Carib-a-Travel. Phone number is 721-5814705.

Patti-r u the lady from Spain? If so, I know u. Have a great trip. I'd love any info you can give. How's the food? Language barrier? Especially would love to know about the excursions offered and if they are worth it. My expectations are not great but will enjoy just getting away and even seeing the islands from on board the cruise. May take the advice to just stay on the ship. We go 3/2 during RegattaQ!

I read a few reviews of this ship/line. Not very good.

Re: Horizon Cruise from SXM - 01/12/2015 05:31 PM

Carol, I just checked their web site and noticed the fares they are listing are higher than those offered by many of the new cruise ships. Not even an inside cabin for $500 as previously quoted by someone. It doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Also they state that only a few cabins are ever available for boarding in SXM. It will be interesting to read the reports here by those taking the cruise.

Re: Horizon Cruise from SXM - 01/12/2015 06:38 PM

If you could get there TODAY, the sailing this evening is for $499. The ad that was in the paper today had prices from $525 for January 19 week, up to $725 for March 16 to 23. They apparently have free (alcohol) drinks, which certainly makes a difference for SOME people (including me!) The attraction for me personally would be a combined SXM stay and cruise vacation. I wouldn't pay to fly all the way to SXM just to take that cruise, although it does have some ports that we haven't been to.

The Patti you are referring to is 'Sungoddess' on TTOL.

I actually thought about...... since Regatta ends on a Sunday..... and the next day the Horizon leaves SXM for a week. It sounds like it would be a nice vacation extension.

March 9 to 16 is supposedly from $697 a person.

Re: Horizon Cruise from SXM - 01/13/2015 05:52 PM

They seem to have increased their prices-we paid $490.00 incl. taxes last summer but as I have mentioned before the price is different depending on where you board-last I looked Guadeloupe was $1,690 + taxes! we sailed on a sister ship in Spain last year-meals are not gourmet as they are on some lines but otherwise everything was great. English speaking passengers practically non existent but the crew speak english. I imagine that they are docking in SXM because of the French side of the island. I agree Carol-we would never take this cruise if airfare was added on top.

Re: Horizon Cruise from SXM - 01/13/2015 06:26 PM

I would suspect that on this cruise there will be more English speaking people than the one sailing from Spain. I wouldn't be surprised to see a fair number of local St. Martiners on the ship.

I hope so-French was my worst subject in school and it hasn't improved since.
