Ma Doudou Punch au Rhum

Ma Doudou Punch au Rhum - 03/07/2015 03:53 PM

I brought a bottle home and I am not sure if I should keep it in the refrigerator. Is it best served chilled or room temp...Any thoughts?

I prefer to drink it at room temperature, but refrigerating it might help its longevity.

Longevity? Mine doesn't last long enough to go bad. It is a popular beverage around my home

Room temperature, straight up, and sip don't shoot.

States things quite well. It is definitely a treat, and I love to try as many versions as possible.

Room temp is just fine - I have years of experience on this.

Great, room temp it is! I am not worried about the longevity either, I just wish I brought more home.

When you run out send me a PM and I will send you a recipe for a very close replica you can make at home. I have three Mason jars of my homemade orange-vanilla sitting in my pantry now.

We used to bring it home; now it's just a very special treat on the island. So much more meaningful that way.

I suppose it may depend on what variety it is, but I don't really think that's a problem, it going bad at room temp. We normally buy banana vanilla and we had one bottle that stayed around for something over a year, and not only did it not go bad, it was AMAZING. Really smooth.

We kept a bottle of coconut for almost 2 years and it was awesome!

I thought the banana vanilla lost some of it's flavor after awhile, like 1-2 years. (Yeah, we brought a lot back one time!) But no, it doesn't technically go "bad". It's alcohol after all!

Along the lines of making your own. We discovered on this year's visit to SXM that Rhum agricole (de la Guadeloupe) is available in 3 liter boxes and larger! (You can even buy it at the Petit Casino in Orient). We couldn't resist bringing one back. The homemade Ma Doudou recipe could be just the ticket for using our excess of rum.
