There has been a swell the last week that has depleted the sand from some beaches. Winds have been non-stop 15-20 and the swell has been fierce. Very rolly at anchor.

We arrived on Saturday and as we were nearing the island DH noticed the waters looking strangely different than the norm but we couldn't figure out quite what was causing the difference. Yesterday we were talking to someone from the island who suggested that what we saw as slightly rusty brown waters was actually the sargasso seaweed that kas plagued so many of the beaches here as far back as last fall.

One year we drove around from beach to beach trying to find one without huge waves and ended up at le Galion, which is always calm.

We were on island from March 15 to April 4. When we first arrived, the seaweed over at Orient was huge! In fact, never saw so much of it...and only a few of the beaches even attempted to clean it up in the mornings. By the end of the first week there, it all disappeared. On arrival we were on JB from SJU, so it's a smaller plane that i don't think travels as high altitude. As we were nearing the island, the seaweed ''lines'' were very evident approaching. Mullett, we saw no seaweed at all...but first week they were surfing with ridiculous high waves...by week 2 and 3 the waves were non existent. The one day we went to Mary's Boon beach, the waters were flat enough to ''skate on''. Hearing the report, sounds like this isn't the case since we left. Mother nature surely does what she wants......

Sorry we didn't get to meet our Norwalk neighbors at the party.
It is sometimes difficult to find a calm beach. Yesterday we ended up at Orient after looking at three. It was beautiful, but we don't seem to swim as much there. May be the winds keep you so cool.
