Wednesday means a day sail........

Wednesday means a day sail........ - 04/30/2015 01:37 AM

And then it was Wednesday and we're down to only one more week to go.

We booked another around the island sail for today with the same company we booked with last December. It was 'the same trip' but a totally different version. Last time we were on the Quality Time and today, It was a different and much smaller boat - I'm thinking it was the Seasation or maybe not? - but with a few more people on it. Definitely NOT what I'd call a party boat but by the time the afternoon rolled around, it was a good party for sure.

But let me back up a bit - I actually went to our Monday morning timeshare spiel to find out the specifics of the Passaat's dinner cruise since we've already done their lunch sail and the sunset cruise, but that rep didn't make the presentation so we fell back on that which we knew or at least thought we knew and went with it.

It's an Eagle tour and includes everything from round trip transport from your hotel, the full day sail with drinks and snacks, and lunch at Calmos Cafe in GC, as well as the sail itself which included snorkel stops at 'the Cave' at Baie Rouge, Creole Rock, and their floating bar stop at Tintamarre Island.

The bus picked us up at 7:45 and off to Dock Maarten we went, picking up other guests along the way. We boarded and met all the other passengers and we were really lucky that it was a very congenial group so a nice day was had by all. The seas were not very cooperative today so the captain reversed the direction of the sail and threw in Baie Rouge instead of one of the scheduled stops and we sailed out of P'berg and in that direction, battling the waves all the way. Before we even got to Divi all of us sitting on the trampoline were soaked and it only got much worse once we reached the Atlantic side of the island. Lunch at Calmos was typical - Mahi-mahi or chicken with salad, rice and ice cream and then back on the boat for the last leg of the day. While at Tintamarre, the sea turtles put on quite a show for our benefit, even spending a lot of time atop the water which was pretty cool. We made the turn around Pt. Blanche around 4:45 and we were all feted with the obligatory flute of champagne. Don't know why they do it, but it's a nice touch at the end of the trip.

We pulled back into P'berg a few minutes after five, most of us looking like drowned rats, but it was truly a good day on the SXM waters. I think I'm done with boat trips for a few years unless something really wonderful comes along, and even though this trip was totally different than the last one but billed as the same thing, I'd still recommend it if someone wanted to do an all day sail.

The bus deposited us home around six and this sailor is done. It's gotta' be bedtime somewhere, no? Showers and tuna salad sandwiches for dinner as well as soon to bed, and I don't care who knows it. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Sounds like you don't care anymore for this trip, but what specifics were you looking for regarding the Passaat dinner cruise? It's basically the same as the sunset cruise until you return to where they "dock," at which time dinner is served with all the twinkling lights of Simpson Bay surrounding you. Everyone sits at the large dining table. Salad with choice of dressing; choice of chicken or mahi mahi; sides but I can't remember what they are; coconut pie dessert. Back to land around 9 PM.

Hi, Lynn and Chic,

Years ago, and particularly when we were here with the kids and Grands, we used to enjoy that boat and we even did a few private charters with our group of six or eight and they were wonderful days. We also had one of those true 'sailing' days you're describing and thankfully, none of us became ill. We haven't done boat trip since it was sold and they started taking more passengers. The owner we went with always limited his trips to 12 to 14 and it was a very personalized day with no trapeze and high jinx, but either way, it's a great little boat, for sure.

Are you enjoying your stay and how much longer are you here? We have to give up our penthouse on Saturday but the trade off is good since we're moving literally to an on the beach location. Have a great time.....

Here till 5/8. We were in a villa on Beacon Hill for a week now at Sapphire for two. All is good there as long as you go with the flow. You are moving just in time. 2000 people expected for grand opening of Starz on Saturday. Hope our paths cross before we leave.
