May 5th is almost here - 04/30/2015 01:50 AM

For all you May Club O beach visitors ( Sand gravity folks) May 5th is almost here and time again for the el sinks the rafto event.

I understand there are new swim rafts so how many folks will it take this year to sink the raft? How many do you think it will take?

Plan your week and afternoon to join the fun of rubbing bodies with as many as we can encourage to fit on the raft and see how low it will go.

Sorry to say it only takes 6 (average) people to sink the raft-o. It also lists to one side so those six need proper positioning to keep it level. Not to same flotation as last year.

The floats must be a lot smaller than the previous.

A couple of years ago we had up to around 25 people.

Took some encouragement to get everyone out but after about 15 minutes it was a tight fit and the float going down.

Sadly, PKwx is right. We watched only one or two folks sink the new one to the point where water was washing over the deck last week. Seems like the side opposite the ladder was the mostly likely to go down first.

A few years ago, it took about a dozen people to sink that raft.

Well the 2015 sinko de rafto is again behind us and we all look forward to next year.

The new float is indeed smaller and has less flotation than the pre-hurricane float.

Down to the facts:
It takes 11 adults to get the deck awash and did not hit bottom with 24 on the deck but clearly well below the ocean surface. This years event was right on schedule at 3:30 pm with warm weather and a stiff breeze, a windy but another great beach day at Club O.
