Catholic Church please.

Hopefully within walking distance of The Flamingo in Simpson Bay? and Mass Times? otherwise, I know about St. Martin de Tours on Frontstreet in PHillipsburg, but could use mass times there too, if anyone knows. . thank you... July5

Can't be 100% sure but what I saw on other forums is 5pm on Sunday's with no Saturday. There is a couple of web sites but they don't list times. I haven't attended so maybe some one who has can confirm.

Mary, Star of the Sea is in the village of Simpson Bay and has a 5:00 PM Mass. It is closest to the Flamingo but is not really within walking distance. It is maybe a 5 minute taxi ride away

I think St. Martin de Tours is at 8:30 on Sundays... It is a must do for us... notwithstanding the fact that we are faithful Catholics.... but the island reverence you feel at Mass is something we would recommend even to those who are not quite as spiritual...

it's pretty there, and pretty wonderful isn't it? I've never been to mass there, but we've walked about.

Mass at St. Martin de Tours is different than in Canada, very upbeat everyone participating, Father Bob is quite engaging. It almost feels like an old south Baptist ceremony! Get there early it fills up fast!

We have attended Mass at the Catholic Church in Grand Case. We really enjoyed it - the priest would do a part in French & then in English - the singing was out of this world. I was also amazed at how dressed up everyone was compared to our church here in Austin.

Be prepared to spend at least 1&1/2 hrs at St. Martin de Tours-more if Fr. Bob is preaching. Also need to be there at least 15 mins before mass to get a seat-in high season at least.

Where is the church in Grande Case? I don't find it on masstimes.org. Do you recall the schedule for Sunday mass?

Sunday Brunch. HMMM?? Bon Appetit is easiest but if I'm gonna be in Philipsburg, hmm where do you all suggest? French comes easiest to mind. I have no idea what a traditional Dutch brunch consists of????

It's on Boulevard De Grand Case. Mass on Sunday's is at 9 am.

I don't even know if there is such a thing as a traditional Dutch brunch, but I love breakfast at Chesterfield's in Philipsburg. If you drive over to the French side, Paradise View has fabulous crepes.

isn't it funny how serendipity is playing less of a role in my life? I found myself a little annoyed that Chesterfield's doesn't have a website linked to tripadvisor. sigh..

Mass is at 8:45 maybe 9:00 it is easy to find it is on the one way out of grand case on the left side ( land side) it is a very wonderful experience everyone is dressed and the kids are so cute . We have been going there for over 25 years and would not miss it

OMG I never think about dress any more. Pure tourist just glad to be in the building!

Same here.... we are definitely under dressed but it does not seem to matter.. The locals seem genuinely happy that we are there and the experience is inspiring...

Fr. Bob is being transferred end of summer to somewhere in the States....50 miles N. of Detroit. I'll keep you posted as to his final destination. We have mutual friends and he'll be here this summer visiting. He's very special.

So very sad to hear that, we always enjoyed his sermons and attitude! We are also losing our local priest here at the end of the month!

In Nov. we attended the 5PM Mass at Mary Star of the Sea. It was enjoyable. Church is small and filled up quickly. Our first trip to SXM was over Easter in 1993. We went to Easter Sunday Mass at St. Martin of Tours and I think it was the best Mass I have ever been to.

There are signs here at Divi regarding a Saturday mass in the sales office. I can't remember if it says 5:30 or 6:30.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that Father Bob is being transferred. He may be special to you, but last summer my daughter had a low blood sugar incident as we were entering church at 5:00 sunday evening. We had to treat it and with 7 of us we were focused on getting in and getting seated once she was ok since there was no later mass to go to and we had assured an arriving guest who had a flight coming in that afternoon that we would take them to mass because MASS IS IMPORTANT TO US!! I guess he thought we made too much noise coming in (and frankly he had started mass early and I thought we came and sat as quickly as we could have...but my first concern was catching my breath from the scare with my diabetic daughter). He chose to make his homily about PEOPLE WHO COME IN LATE AND INTERRUPT MASS and he specifically said that he wanted to thank everyone in the church who DID NOT come in late and interrupt him. We were sitting up front, mortified as everyone looked at us (even though another couple of people entered when we did, they were sitting in the far back and not up front where our group was...we had to sit up front because they were the only available seats and our daughter had to sit quickly. Then he went to everyone nearby BUT US for the sign of peace. A guest who was with us (who we had told previously that Mass at St. Maarten was one of our favorite masses anywhere) almost went up to him after mass because she was so upset with him. He also spent the rest of the homily saying he would not go to the homes of people who did not come to "his" church. He kept repeating throughout the homily how if there were questions it is "his" church, "he" makes the rules, "he: knows the answers, "he: decides who he should visit. We had waited for a late plane (to make sure our guest got to church) treated a low blood sugar, struggled to find parking, and were IN CHURCH on VACATION, and he made us feel unwelcomed and judged. My family had already made the decision to go to church in Grand Case instead of St. Martin of Tours as long as he was the priest. So I hope he was just having a bad day, but it is not 'his' church, it is GOD'S CHURCH....and it was for GOD to judge our arrival, not him to mortify us without knowing our situation. My daughter felt terrible as she felt it was her fault we walked in late....as if having Type 1 diabetes at age 14 and trying to control blood sugars on vacation is her fault. I guarantee it would have been a LOT MORE disruptive to church if she had passed out or had a hypoglycemic seizure.

If he would have said something to us privately after mass we could have explained the situation AND he could have made his point. We had previously enjoyed some of his theatrical ways, but we no longer felt welcome at what he called "his" church...when it is HIS (God's) church

You're not alone-I certainly won't miss him. I got very tired of him yelling at us about people who don't attend mass, or dress inappropriately or whatever else vexes him at the time-like go yell at them if you must but leave me alone. I also didn't appreciate sitting in church for nearly 2 hrs when every other Catholic mass in the world takes about one hour. However I must admit that he has a lot of admirers.
