Moulin Fou

Moulin Fou - 06/28/2015 04:39 PM

The French restaurant behind Cheri's has closed. I believe that it was Thursday, the Dutch Goverment raided the restaurant and closed the doors for having undocumented workers. I was hit by too much sand gravity so I haven't read any newspapers for updates.

That is truly too bad. Moulin Fou on any night, but particularly on Tuesday evenings, is my very favorite place to dine in the general area of Simpson Bay to Coupecoy. Hopefully it was some sort of technical snafu and they'll be up and operational again soon. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Too bad. It's on our list of places to eat on our next trip. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

I actually doubt it is closed for good. I'm sure they are going to be fined, but I would not think the government would close them for good. Possibly they are getting new workers hired and will re-open when they get new workers. And often if there is a raid like that, they would also check for sanitary issues, so they might have to clean up some of those kinds of issues also, before they could re-open.

I just reached out to one of the waiters to get the story so as soon as I have it I will pass it along. This restaurant is definitely in our top 5 so I hope whatever the issue is that they get it fixed ASAP...Apparently they have decided in the last few weeks to crack down on businesses as it refers to licenses, taxes, employees, etc.

I was told this from casino employees. When i heard this I walked up to the restaurant and it was board up with everything removed from the outdoors and I mean everything. I also hope it is a temporary situation we also enjoy eating there.. We just arrived home from JFK and will be looking forward to anyone who has more up todate info.

bonsie,

Keep watching for Sharon's post here - if anyone can get to the bottom of this and get the real facts, I'm sure Sharon can.

I often wondered if the French waiters needed appropriate licenses or papers to work legally on the Dutch side of the island. We may soon find out.....

We were looking forward to introducing our Granddaughter to some fine French dining here during our Spring trip. For their sakes, and for ours, too, I hope the situation is resolved by then.

Also, hoping your trip home was a good one. The trip into JFK is a trek for you but the direct flights are worth the effort, no?

I just text their sommelier on Facebook. He said that in fact it is true that they were closed down. But hopefully re-opening today. He said there was some problem with papers.

Pat,
I will be watching closely for any info that Sharon may give us. Our trip into JFK was not that bad at all, I was just anxious to get home once we were in the car. The flight itself departed on time and landed 50 mins. early. We had the best trip ever in the 15 trips to the island. Nancy and I decided every morning if we were going to let sand gravity get the better of us or if we were going to tackle our bucket list. We accomplished both, LOL. We ended our trip Sat. with breakfast and lunch at Anse Marcel beach club and I must say that we could have ended the trip in a better way. Boy O Boy, the chefs at that place can cook.

I almost forgot, direct flights from JFK is the only way to go. On our flight down and two weeks later on our flight back was the lead guitarist for the rock group Cars in the 70's or 80's. He was only a couple seats away and still looked like a ready to perform again.

Re: Moulin Fou - 06/30/2015 03:03 AM

Re: Moulin Fou - 07/02/2015 02:45 AM

Sorry for the delayed response with the info I gathered but I am in Denver with my kids & my youngest grandchild so I have been pretty busy.

I was in direct contact with some employees from Moulin Fou & they are expecting everything to be resolved by the end of this week. It seems as if the previous owner had never gotten work permits for the Fremch employees so the new owner has already applied for them & according to my sources it should all be resolved this week.

I will check with my sources again this weekend to see if it has all been resolved & they are back open.
