Jet Blue has announced it is the first airline starting flights to Cuba in the fall. I wonder if that option will decrease the flights and passengers to SXM?

Jet Blue may be flying to Cuba, I don't know, but there are already flights to Cuba from Miami. Not sure what airline(s) they are though.

The schedule is opened. You can book now.

Re: jetblue - 07/08/2015 02:20 PM

I guess those flights from Miami must be Jet Blue since they were to be the first.Guess they could not wait till fall. Carnival is also starting cruises from Miami. Guess I will wait for my next trip to Cuba as it will be getting very crowded.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Elizabeth, and not sure where you got your information, but Jet Blue is definitely NOT the first from Miami. Possibly the first from New York. The Daily Herald has a story today, talking about cruises that will start going to Cuba, and it mentions that US airlines have been operating charter flights to Cuba for years.

JB is flying only JFK to Havana. They do not fly to/from Miami (FLL and West Palm yes)

Are you going for humanitarian or educational purposes, as U.S. citizens can not go to Cuba for recreational reasons yet.

I realize this thread has gotten somewhat convoluted, but Terry is saying that she booked her dates to SXM, not Cuba.

Thanks for the "heads-up" I had just checked yesterday for a March flight but it wasn't open yet. Today I booked at $399 direct BOS SXM

Re: jetblue - 07/08/2015 06:11 PM

We just booked our flights from Chicago to SXM on JetBlue. We're going to spend 3 weeks on the island, the latter part of Febrary, beginning of March. Its the first time we've used JetBlue.

I went on the JB site, put in our dates, and looked at prices. I was disappointed as the fares were high: $494 to fly to the island; $290 to return, $1565 for both of us.

I've seen TTOLers talk about ITA Software, so I thought I would try it out to see what the competition was. Lo and behold, the JB flights were listed for $524 per person. But you cannot book from the ITA Matrix, one needs to go onto the JB site to book.

So, I browsed to google.com/flights as I know ITA was bought by Google. Entered my dates and presto, the lower fares were displayed along with a link to the JB site. Followed the link and purchased the air tickets for both of us for $1048 total.

Its weird. If I go to JB's site, they still say the fare is $784 per person. And google.com/flights still list the same trip as $524 per person.

Good work.. That effort paid off

Re: jetblue - 07/08/2015 07:13 PM

Sorry Carol. That is correct, the first from New York. My information was gained from a few different TV channels. In the past, Americans were travelling on US Airlines to Canada and then on to Cuba. We met many American families who were doing that when we were there and they were on our flights.

Shows you what TV knows! I know that I have seen flights on boards in Miami for a couple of years which are headed to Cuba. And there was a flight from Cuba that was on the same luggage carousel when we got home this time.

They're having a computer glitch. See Pats recent post. She spoke to an agent who explained it might be a short time or even a week.

Re: jetblue - 07/09/2015 11:22 PM

I was able to book my flight this evening around 5:00 pm EST. Tried all day long and that was the first I was able to actually find and book our April flight.

I was able to get back on this afternoon, but they are definitely on and off. They couldn't send email yesterday; today we must have received 30 between 2 different accts.
Yesterday the agent booked our tickets, since there were so many computer problems.
