Port of ST Maarten webcam

Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 12:35 PM

Just found another webcam from Holland house. It's the first webcam I have seen that seems to be controlled by a person instead of being steady. http://www.portstmaartenwebcam.com/
Now that would be cool to have such one at Maho beach, following the planes as they land.

Re: Sunset Bar and Grill Webcam - 09/23/2015 01:22 PM

BEST WEBCAM EVER!!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> I just spent 10 minutes watching it. This is very dangerous, as I could sit here and watch it all day!!
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Sunset Bar and Grill Webcam - 09/23/2015 02:29 PM

I'm not sure what you mean by being controlled by hand. I just see a live steady shot of the same angle. Nice fast streaming though.

Re: Sunset Bar and Grill Webcam - 09/23/2015 02:38 PM

It depends on when you're watching it. A while ago, the camera panned all the way both ways down Great Bay Beach, and then it panned all the way past the Sonesta Great Bay and then all the way over to the Divi, and up to Fort Amsterdam. That was SERIOUSLY cool!!

Re: Sunset Bar and Grill Webcam - 09/23/2015 02:48 PM

Thanks I'll have to watch it again. Now it's the cruise ship and tenders going back and forth.

Check it out right now!!

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 03:05 PM

Hi. I made this it's own thread. Really cool webcam, especially when they move around to different views! I was watching people get off the water tender a few minutes ago, watched a couple get stopped by what looked to be a timeshare salesman. Funny as crap, watching the woman snatch at her hubby's arm and say "let's go!!"..

I am not able to save this site on my desktop. Any suggestions how others are doing it? Thanks, Jerry

Also I don't see how to control the cam. Thanks

Sorry, what do you mean "save it on your desktop"? The link, you mean??? I just put the link in my internet favorites.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 04:58 PM

I could be wrong, but I 'assumed' that there is no way to control this web cam.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:04 PM

Oh, we don't control it, they do. That makes sense. Now I wish I could save the site.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:05 PM

while watching the webcam, right click on the picture and select shortcut, then you are asked if you want to create a shortcut on your main page.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:08 PM

better to place your pointer right next to the words Port ST. Maarten webcam then right click
Posted By: kccouple

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:17 PM

I must be thick in the head. When I right click the words as you said, create shortcut is not one of the options.I have tried other things when I right click but nothing is working yet.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:28 PM

Just click on add to favorites. On my desk top home page I just click on the star and it automatically goes to my favorites. Than I just have to click on that to open it up.

Look at Saba in the distance. I haven't seen it that clear in quite a long time.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:39 PM

It's been pointed at the beach for quite some time now. Wish they would move it around again some. I had my speakers muted before and just now discovered there is sound, although I'm not sure if it's actually coming from the beach, or it's background noise they have attached to the video??
Posted By: kccouple

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 05:40 PM

Sound is great. I finally saved the site in a round about way and sent it to my wife at work. Can't wait till Jan. 31st 2016
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 06:15 PM

The sound is pretty faint on my site even with my speakers all the way up. Leads me to believe it's coming from the beach or a beach bar somewhere.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 06:39 PM

OK, that's kind of what I thought. Guess one would find out for sure when one of the ships was leaving, blowing their horn.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 09:21 PM

Cruise ship just disappearing behind the Divi hill now!!

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 09:25 PM

And the camera is following it as it cruises of into the sunset. Neat.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 09:31 PM

Went back to the site and after watching the ship disappear behind the big hill it panned back towards the beach.
It would also pan forward for close ups too. Someone is controlling the camera live. Not sure how long they will keep this up as it take someone to do this. Even min wage will add up.
Posted By: Mantas

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/23/2015 09:51 PM

Perhaps its a subscription service that came with the camera technology where one person somewhere in the world is controlling a bunch of cams (spread anywhere in the world).

What would the big screen looking thing on the side of the ship in port now be?Been watching but can't figure it out. It was something to watch it back in.

Are you talking about the blue box toward the bottom or the greenish area toward the front and top?

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/24/2015 12:49 PM

It is on the life boat deck, right ahead of the last two boats, there is a sailboat mast in front of it now. It was changing before like it was a screen of some sort, just wondering

Wish there were more of them of that quality around the island. You could sit in your room in the morning and decide which side of the island has the best wind or sky conditions before you set out. Wish Orient's camera was that clear and fast.

And with a smart tv you could put it on the big screen, fix yourself some drinks, turn up the heat (if you happen to be in a cold climate) , and get that sand gravity feeling whenever you want.

Cool! There's a ship in again today! Will probably be watching a lot today! Can't imagine what it's going to look like come high season when there are six ships in!!

Interesting, though, the RCCL ships last week backed in and the ship today pulled in forward. Wonder why the difference?

Do the passengers walk off the boat out there and catch a cab or do they tender them into P'burg. It looks like a good distance from town. We went down to P'burg years ago and there was no ship in that day.
Posted By: islandgem

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 09/28/2015 09:20 PM

Many walk to town. Some take cabs and there is also a water taxi available. The other option is the organized tours available from the ship.

I thought I read here that SXM was no longer going to be a stop for Disney yet here's Fantasy pulling in. Maybe it's not coming in 2016?

I caught this cam just in time this morning as it panned toward Divi then went in and I could see the lanai on our unit! Awesome seeing the ship in the background and the units in front.

Yes, I'm totally addicted to this site and have been following the Bermuda action as well. Looks, at least via the webcam, they are getting clobbered. I was just on the Canaveral site which is close to my in-laws and they have a relief ship in. Brother in law says it's the nsnf Trenton.

SandyandBill you can drag your cursor over the shapes on the map just below the webcam and it tells you the name and cruising speed of the ship.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 10/09/2015 07:04 PM

And guess what? You guessed it. At the far eastern end of the bay there are people out in the water.
Which reminds me that a number of years ago we took the highway between Lake Louise and Jasper. The road was quite a tourist draw a there were glaciers that came right up to it. We stopped at the biggest one. There were about five Greyhound type busses. Just where the ice started there were signs in English and French telling people that walking on the glacier was extremely dangerous and therefore prohibited. Of course there were over a hundred people slipping a sliding all over the place out there. I thought, crazy nuts. Then they all came back armed with their Nikons. They all spoke Japanese and German. I thought, the signs are in the wrong languages.

Disappointing so far, when I have watched some ships come in before, they zoomed in the camera, as it was going by the Divi, and when the harbor pilot came onboard, and they haven't done that so far today.

I think it leaves at 7. All on board was 6:30. The port schedule is very unreliable.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 10/15/2015 12:15 AM

No, but I run excursions and cruise ship passengers are 50% of our business. On a day with just one ship arriving at 10, my check in is at 10:;30 instead of 9:30 so I have an extra hour before meeting the clients.

Re: Port of ST Maarten webcam - 10/15/2015 02:31 AM

I only go by what my passengers tell me and they said all on board was 6:30. Usually all on board is 30 minutes before departure. In my business you have to make sure you know the schedule.

I also cannot see it. I get the message "If you are seeing this message, our service may be temporarily unavailable at your location". That's on Long Island.

I just got that message also. Maybe it is temporarily down.

Lots of swimmers in the water after they warned against swimming in Great Bay in the paper today. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Unfortunately not all visitors read the local newspapers. Even some who do, will not follow warnings and continue to do as they want.

Especially since most of those folks I'm sure are off the ships, which almost none of those people read the newspaper.

Wouldn't you think the vendors that are renting those chairs would have a conscience to warn those people? Money must be more important than good will.

I guess if the health department wanted to be diligent, they could post signs along the beach regarding this.

Perhaps its a subscription service that came with the camera technology where one person somewhere in the world is controlling a bunch of cams (spread anywhere in the world).

Exactly. PTZv's website says the company is based in Ft Lauderdale. They pre research, visit & evaluate potential mounting sites. They install the equipment and they manage the cameras not a local person.

Maybe the ban was lifted. Last week when they had it the venders did not put out their chairs and umbrellas and except for the extreme eastern end of the beach no one was in the water. I made a post about it back then along with a Canadian visit story.

No, there was a new advice against swimming in Great Bay posted in the paper this morning, based on the release of water from the Salt Pond yesterday.

Nice closeup now of the cruise ships in port - haven't seen the closeup used before. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

Beautiful picture of the Carnival ship leaving now, although it is a bit dark.

Looks like it's going to be a busy day on the island today. It's 7:30 in the morning and there are already three ships in town. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

And now there are four. What a pretty sight that is....... Glad I'm not trying to navigate in town today and I'm willing to bet midday at SSB&G will be crazy.
