Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 12:34 PM

The new buildings are being painted. It brings the "tropical" feel some where asking for. I like it.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 02:34 PM

Great pic - the col will add to the units
I am confused though
Guessing the painted 3 unit pod is the pod furthest south [based on the green on the right side which looks to tbe same col as the 1st pic mprev posted]
I thought there would be 4 pods, each with 3 units

However the pic shows a single unit to the north of the painted pod

What am I missing?

Yes, I like what I saw too and it's indeed a big improvement. I was kind of bummed when I saw the brown siding, wondering if this was the final product.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 02:43 PM

I guess what you're missing is some units are standalone and others are clustered. <wink> Here is a wider picture with the standalone unit in the middle. I don't know how many are standalone. You can also see that the 2nd cluster has only 2 units, plus what looks like a gazebo at the end.

Is the stand alone structure the bathrooms/showers building?

Very nicely done. Resembles a "tropical village".

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 02:51 PM

That pic helps

When I go back to the original concept [my memory, not a post] there were to be 8 resto's, 4 shops, washrooms and a vendor's market

In the pics from others so far, I kept wondering about the where would the washrooms and vendors market go

This pic helps - for anyone there how do the pods line up ie going north so far it's a 3 unit, 1 unit, 2 unit etc?

Thanks

I can't tell, I'm still in Pittsburgh <lol>, but you could very well be right.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 03:17 PM

I thought you took those pictures. If they are from someone else, I presume that you have their consent to post them here?? As if not, we need to take them down, or get their consent.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 03:37 PM

I always ask people on FB if I can repost their pictures. Some respond, "no problem", others don't respond. Nobody has ever told me no. If those who don't respond have a problem with it, they'll tell me and I'll take them down.

So far, all pictures of Orient Beach that I posted here, I got permission to do it. See hereunder.

I can repost someone else's pictures on Facebook without permission so I assume it's the same if I repost them somewhere else.

Not only they have no private character whatsoever but I also assume that if they're posted on a social site like Facebook, it's because there's no copyright involved.

Am I correct?

PLEASE, unless someone affirmatively tells you it is ok to post their personal pictures elsewhere, do not post them here. Thank you.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 04:01 PM

Got it.
FYI I edited my post and included the permission to do it.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 04:06 PM

Thanks. You didn't need to include that in the post, but I appreciate it. If you tell me that you got permission to post it from the owner, I'm good with that.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 10/30/2015 04:16 PM

Since I had explicit permission to do it, I wanted to prove to you that I don't repost without being allowed to. We're cool.

Sorry, I didn't mean you needed to PROVE it. If you say you have permission, I'm happy.

What is the parking situation, presently? There used to be a parking area behind Andy & Cheryls, and some parking along the Club O wall.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 11/01/2015 06:48 PM

There will be at least as much parking as there was before the construction.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 11/01/2015 10:04 PM

If you look at the photos posted by mprevo on 10/29/2015, especially the 9th one, you will see curbs on the left for a sidewalk and the right, next to the buildings...everything in between will be parking, just as shown in the original renderings. Way more than before (80 spots), maybe 4 times as many.

Beautiful day on orient beach today!!! The next building along the row is lavender. The workers are working diligently to get the places finished. They will be beachy when finished. Not quite 2 rows of chairs all the way at club o. Had lovely dinner in marigot at bistro de la mer. Lovely people & great dinner. They now have a Thai restaurant right beside them with the chef from the old Thai gardens. Lunch was great at kontiki. Not very busy today. 4 ships tomorrow. We've been told a lot of people are staying on the ships. Gus was at the airport & we are nicely tucked in at mon reve guest house. Lovely place on Friars bay road!! Will try to post pics of the newly painted places on orient. It's emotional for sure watching the activity!

Just wondering if the cruise lines are suggesting that passengers not go to french side due to the trouble they had last week? Why else would people be staying on the ship?

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 11/03/2015 12:26 AM

I'm told the people are coming to the French markets & not eating out the same & returning to ship. I don't think fear is involved. There were more diners in marigot last night than last November. We eat on the French side at night always. We are sitting on our balcony with an empty bottle of Bordeaux wine & a few shots of 8 year old Bacardi rum listening to a lovely
chorus of tree frogs in a lovely residential neighbourhood as safe as ours at home. Our Egyptian musk Insense is burning beside us. We r in our 60's in case you r wondering. The air is black velvet. Not trying to make you envious just telling it like it is tonight.
Ps. Hubby, john had the best roast duck he has ever had at kontiki on orient beach. Where can u eat a gourmet meal at the same price with sand on your feet in your bathing suit! Only place in the world st Martin !!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Carol you may want to move that last one. I got carried away with our trip & forgot I was on the orient construction comments. Lol. Not the wine for sure. You won't hear negativity from us. It's absolutely fantastic. My name is Lynn by the way. My hubby is going to send a photo of the pool at our place.

Someone asked here about parking: Right now some cars creating parking behind & around Pedro's but space is very crowded & chaotic for the taxi drivers waiting to pickup people going back to ships!!
Last week on Wed no painting had been done.

Re: Orient beach construction, painted exterior - 11/03/2015 10:27 AM

I took video yesterday of ongoing construction . The third unit was being painted a light purple and the painter was using a very small roller to apply the paint. So far we saw them painted blue and green. The men were hammering the nails "old school" no nail gun.

mon reve sxm vacation- living the dream - 11/04/2015 01:30 AM

There was lots of parking behind kontiki yesterday & today. The new buildings are in the Créole style U see in a lot of pictures. The next one along is darker blue than the other one. Luiz the custom bathing suit guy from behind chez Leandre says he will be open for business end of November & will have custom cotton dresses.
Lunch yesterday at kontiki & lunch today kakao. I'm critiquing the Bordeaux along the beach. So far no complaints. Breakfast at la croissanterie in Margot. Best croissants this side of France. Black velvet air again tonight. Island not brown anymore.

Sorry got that last one in the wrong spot. Anybody have email I can send pics but haven't figured out how to post them. I can email from my iPhone though if someone can then post. The workers are putting decks on some of the buildings. You can walk down to Pedro's & across the front high up to get to club o. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
