Forecast looks horrible for the next week. 60 to 70 percent chance of rain. I know its hit or miss sometimes but these percentages look high. How has it been down there today? Hoping we get some sun next week.

Look at the Club O webcam and also www.portstmaartenwebcam.com for live weather.

Today looks pretty windy, on the port cam, and especially on the Club O cam, since the umbrellas are down at the moment. There actually has been more rain in SXM recently than there had been, as the island was suffering from a drought. However, it's not something to worry about ahead of time. Worrying about the weather is not going to change whatever it will be. Go with a good attitude and you will enjoy yourself, regardless of the weather. Check out the 'rain' thread here also.

We arrived on Sunday and the weather has been great! We only had one shower on Monday evening where we are staying. It often rains in one area and not another. People in Beacon Hill have mentioned showers each day, but we have not experienced that. The weather reports regarding rain are definitely not accurate every day so don't worry about the weather; just come and have fun!

SXM is a tropical island, mountainous, in the Trade Winds, with nothing but a couple thousand miles of open Atlantic Ocean to the Northeast. The end result is that the Trade Winds blowing out of the Northeast across all that open ocean pick up a lot of moisture. When they get to St. Martin they hit the mountains like Pic Paradise and climb up the slope into cooler air and lose their moisture as rain.

That's a long-winded way of saying that it probably will rain somewhere on the island, at sometime during each day, for at least a few minutes. That is why the long range weather forecasts call for a medium probability of rain every day. The only days with no rain forecast are during unusual conditions with a high pressure area sitting overhead.

Unless there is a tropical depression passing by the island there are very few washout days like we in the eastern US get when a warm front creeps northward along the coast.

So don't overthink weather forecasts... The norm is a few small showers scattered around the island in different locations at different times for a short duration each.

No big deal...

I am on the Dawn beach side this week. Today we had a short 15 minute downpour at two pm but a lovely morning, and sunshine again after the storm cloud moved through. We had similar situations Saturday-Sunday-Monday......watch the clouds and sometimes they pass by and occasionally it rains for a short time. I like to check out Accuweather HOURLY breakdown which gives you a somewhat close approximation for what hour might more likely see a shower than others. Hard to predict for sure since one spot may get the shower and others stay dry or get hit another time. http://www.accuweather.com/en/sx/philipsburg/249053/hourly-weather-forecast/249053
