I agree, the colors improve the look, for sure. The 5th picture, I guess is a watersports shack?

It could be, yes.

I think we should all pitch in and get some orange paint to entice / welcome Orange Fever back to the beach!

Enjoying the pics as they get posted. Makes me play a guessing game as to what’s what
Pic’s 2 and 6 show the 1st [southerly] 3 pod unit
Pic 1 is the next north I think and is the standalone unit. Thought maybe it was a washroom building but it has 3 large openings on 3 of the sides and a large deck, so guessing a standalone resto?
PIc’s 1, 3 & 4 show the next building north, a 2 pod unit, one large – one small unit. I thought the small unit would be a shop, but the large unit has a opening almost right into the small unit, so will see what that becomes
Pic 5 might be water sports, but wasn’t there to be some sort of help / 1st aid station?? – And what about that huge vertical temp wall held up with a 2 x 6/8 LOL, big drop there!
Look to be still units without metal roofing or final siding, but the stairs are starting to come and they look substantial. Looking at the decks, seems to be room for a row of loungers “up top” between the deck and wall – down below will depend on sand
Nov 30, hmm, not so sure, fingers crossed, I wasn’t the 1st to pick that date, but would buy my own drink if the date comes in! – pretty sure I’ll buy a drink regardless!
Love the pics, thanks for posting – 12 wks and almost starting to count

Thank you for the pictures. I will be pleasantly surprised if anything is open before December.

Like what I see so far. Only draw back is that railing that will be on top of the stone wall. If your on a lounger on the deck say good by to people watching. I know its necessary for safety but it will interfere with the view of the water and people.

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/04/2015 11:44 PM

I can't remember exactly, but I think that the loungers will only be in FRONT of the wall closer to the sea, on the sand level. Up top, I think is only the tables for the restaurants. I spent a bit of time searching through all the various threads yesterday and I couldn't find the mock ups with what the project was supposed to look like. If someone could find that and post it in this thread, it would be very helpful.

Hehehe I Love these posts. For many of us who have been visiting for the past 25+ years, changes on Orient Beach have been good, bad, smart, dumb, tourist friendly, tourist negative, good or bad for business, etc, etc, etc. We are the tourists who come to enjoy what the native islanders are offering.....please don't judge, just enjoy! Too many wonderful memories and lifetime friends to be concerned what a beach restaurant looks like. With all respects, BobD

I thought I saw loungers in back of the wall in one of the mock ups.

Lots of sand and beach where there is usually non. Looks like the water sports buildings are closer to the beach in between the loungers and the wood patios are indeed for the food tables.

"...where there is usually non"?? What the heck does that mean?? Regardless, the loungers are in front of the wall..

I don't believe these watersports shacks right on the beach will ever be built . Not only they would be wiped out by the first big waves but they would not comply with French environmental and zoning laws.

I'm pretty sure it means there is a lot of beach in the plan for loungers in a place where there is currently little to no beach. Not sure how they plan to get around that.

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/05/2015 01:50 PM

I don't think they can get around it. As you know, the mock up is not the actual blue print but an artistic and liberal interpretation of it. Like you said, the beach in front of these constructions is much narrower and there's no way it can be widened.

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/05/2015 07:32 PM

Looking at the link to the drawing I can answer a bit of my questions
If you look at the top down view, it shows [south to north] a 3 pod unit, a one pod then 2 pod unit - a break for ? kiosks? and then the same in reverse order, 2 pods, one pod and 3 pods - I had thought just 4 x 3 pod units, much prefer it is broken up for interest and the col blocking adds alot
Adds up to the 8 resto's and 4 shops as promised
Still begs the question of washrooms - if no structure[s], then does every resto have a small washroom in the back somewhere?

I thought in an earlier thread there was mention of lighting in the parking area, anyone seen any evidence?

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/05/2015 07:42 PM

Regarding bathrooms, I have no idea how to find the picture now, but in a much earlier set of pictures, someone took a picture of a concrete block building, much further off the beach and down toward the Kontiki end of the project, which possibly is going to be the bathrooms. And yes, I do definitely remember talk of lighting in the project. I assume without knowing, that meant lighting in the parking lot.

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/05/2015 07:55 PM

I remember the pic and thinking it was pretty small to serve as a washroom building for 8 resto's. Have not visited all the old resto washrooms, but my sense was all resto's had add least one [some better ... than others] - so one small block building to replace that?
I was hoping for something more, but would settle for clean

J&B - 12 weeks today and WJ2652 arrives 4pm - just checked flight aware and they landed early, as almost always!

I zoomed in on the image provided in the link above and circled where they plan on putting the bathrooms and showers in red (sanitaires et douches). The green circle is for the planned "Safety Station". Orient Construction

Re: Orient Beach construction today pictures - 11/05/2015 08:08 PM

Showers? I didn't remember them talking about showers also. Maybe they did and I just don't remember. I think that is the location of the concrete block building that someone took a picture of before.

Yes plequerre, it is looking good! It will be a change but we will all be surprised by the innovation that will result. I can't wait!
