Updates are that she was involved with a 'bad guy' from SXM. Not a tourist involved situation..

I think that's true of most of the crime on the island, and everywhere, for that matter. Very little violent crime is purely random.

Crime in general can be VERY random. MURDER is not purely random generally, but armed robbery can be pretty random.

WHAT?? Our unit in Oyster Pond was broken into two times our first week here. The gendarmes picked up the perp on a Monday after giving him the weekend to take our stuff - mostly stupid stuff but some valuable items. Our very close friends staying in Blue Beach had their car stolen two nites ago. The locals are really complaining about the crime problem.
Me thinks the Yahoo guys either have their heads stuck where the sun don't shine or on the payola.
Not deterred by the crime but one definitely has to be very defensive minded.
Note - we did file a report at the Marigot gendarme station and our friends did too, for as much good as that will do.

I agree that probably the Yahoo guys are not necessarily into reality..

Sorry to hear that. Being burglarized two nights in the first week is not a nice welcome! How were they gaining entry to your unit? I thought they have an alarm system installed there now.

Several years ago we were robbed and our car was stolen from the lot which had 'security'. LOL. It was probably security that did it. Anyway, next morning, reported to Gendarmes in G.C and they couldn't have cared less....then they sent us to the main Gendarmerie and fortunately, my friend is Fr. Canadian and spoke with them.....and they still didn't give a ratz. So.....just watch your surroundings and stay safe. That's all we can do because the police don't really care....at least our experiences.

BTW....the car company came looking for $15,000. for replacement of the car! They would have settled for $13,000. LOL. Seriously. You can't make up stuff like that. Of course we put a hold on our C.C.....

Contessa I remember when there was a rash of tail lights taken from cars parked at Divi in a supposedly secure lot. Strangely, it was only on cars rented from Thrifty. Later found out more of the story---seems Thrifty was charging customers for the replacement part only to replace it with stolen units.
