Three of my friends who live on the island just came down with chickungunya. Remember to use repellent.

I'm using repellent daily, but still get bit daily...only been here a week and it's the worse mosquito situation I have seen!

Hi, Patti,

Just wondering - is the mosquito problem exclusive to your home area or is it a problem island-wide, if you know? We haven't had any problems the last few trips anywhere across the island but each of our most recent trips were during a drought, more or less, so I'm guessing the mosquitoes are the price you pay for the lush green and floral scented island you seem to be enjoying now?

Mosqitos are a problem all over Island... More so in off season, where the weather is more humid... They love no breeze and still weather... We have had that problem with lots of rain and humidity... This is Island wide... Of cource staying in air condition helps, but not all can stay indoors when on vacation.... Have not had a big problem between December and march... More breezes and less humid and still air... Just our findings

We used repellent and they still bit me--NOT my husband.

We're usually on the island late Nov/early Dec. and April and in honesty, we have rarely experienced the mosquito issues. I know they exist so I use and keep the repellent wipes with me at all times but I guess I've just been very lucky the last fifteen or so years to have experienced few problems with the dreaded moskies.

Our timeshare is high so we do usually manage to catch any breeze that's blowing and I rarely use the airco. One of the first things I do each trip is check the screens for holes and if found, ask the maintenance people to fix the problems ASAP, and thank heavens, they're such great guys and always do so.

Pat, we have not seen one mosquito since we arrived over two weeks ago. Since I didn't see any yet, I have not thought to use repellent. There are the usual little no-seums in the late afternoon near foliage, but they haven't been too bothersome yet. I guess I had better start using my mosquito milk in case I encounter some moskies.

Go ahead! Rub it in, Elizabeth.....rub it in! Two weeks already? See......it's really true. Time truly does go by faster when you're having a good time! And I know you well enough to guess beyond a doubt, you are having a good time!

I'm guessing you're experiencing the typical breezes we so often see this time of the year, and if that's the cast, I hope they continue, but I will pack the moskie wipes just in case.

Save some fun for those yet to come.....

Pat, they weren't that bad---I just happened to get a few bites. It was always sitting at the computer, so maybe they were trying to tell me something.

Elizabeth, you can always start with the natural stuff and use the chemicals if you still get bit.
I just sprayed my feet with the high test stuff after a few bites and used a natural one I brought with me. Seemed to work.

Some folks are targets, and others do not get bit... I am a target, but husband does not get bothered... My sweet sweet blood, and his sour blood... But do not have the problem in the high season, due to breezes and less humid air.... They love dampness.... We see them in the bathroom for that reason, but spray takes care of that.

Oh I am a real target for mosquitoes! If there is only one in a room it is on me for sure. My husband like yours is never bothered by them. Luckily I haven't seen any here yet, but the little black gnats really like to bite in late afternoon.
