Anyone who has left the island in the last few days, what was the temp like in departure areas? When we left in March is was unbearably hot!

If you depart from the downstairs gates, it is always unbearably hot. We haven't left from there now for a few trips so we were lucky I guess. Hope you leave from the upstairs gates.

When we left in June we were down stairs and didn't notice it being hot or uncomfortable. Was just real crowded.

We left 3 weeks ago and OMG it was hot on the second floor by both American and JetBlue departure area.

I always go into the lounge. It cost $20 per person but the AC is always great. WIFI is better in there also. They notify you when your flight is ready to board so you only have to endure the heat for a short period of time.

I've never noticed the airport being hot upstairs or downstairs.

Re: Quick question - 11/27/2015 01:18 PM
Since the opening of the new airport, it routinely feels much warmer downstairs versus upstairs. With more departure gates (open doors versus jetways) on the lower level, the sun reflecting off the hot surface and the heat from the departing planes and equipment, it is not a formula that lends itself to a/c doing much.

Not to mention the body heat generated by 100's of stressed out passengers waiting to board. It can get pretty crowded down there.

I was just about to edit my post and add that. You are correct. All those stressed, warm and tanned bodies add to the atmosphere also.

Yes, downstairs is a terrible design at the new airport and the (thankfully few) times we've been down there, it has been hot as hades. And very crowded. Upstairs, I generally find it very comfortable, as far as temperature.

I always seem to leave out of there. That's why I do the lounge. I overheat quickly.

Thanks for all the replies. We flew home yesterday. Thankfully we did not wait too long going through security as that was the hottest area in March. The main departure areas were comfortable temps.

The last few trips our flights departed upstairs so we didn't notice it being warm. Funny how when we are in the reverse traffic pattern we welcome the nice warm air. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Quick question - 11/28/2015 03:28 PM
Don't forget, when a plane is ready to be boarded, the doors downstairs are open for a long time. This negates the effect of the a/c.

flew out yesterday and I found the downstairs area hot--upstairs seem cooler to me but that could be from finally settling down and sitting for a bit
