Simpson Bay area has most of the night life, and lots of shopping and restaurants in the area. Depending on when you go, cars can be very inexpensive. But you can also book a cab service, you'll find them more around the Simpson Bay area as the cruise lines sell tickets to the Sunset Bar and Grill to see the planes landing and taking off. It's fun to take an excursion on the sea, whether that's just around the island or to a neighboring island, it's a great way to see how the island differs from spot to spot. You can often book those excursions at your hotel.

Pick a spot on Orient Beach and stay there for the 3 days. Lots of good food and fun in the sun on the best beach on the island. After this short trip, a return visit next year to do more touring and exploring this little paradise.

Knowing nothing about your likes and dislikes, my suggestions would be:

Grand Case Beach Club, which is about as close as you can get to an AI resort and yet not be an AI resort. Two beaches, water sports activities center, great restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and just a short daytime walk from your resort you will have all of Grand Case, the epicurean center of St. Martin, at your finger tips. Beach loungers and watersports are all included and rooms range from studios up to multi-bedroom fully equipped units. A full bar and beach service for drinks......only stayed there once for four nights and absolutely loved it. We did have a car which we parked upon arrival and didn't go near it again until we checked out to go home.

And my plan B:

For only three full days, a room at the Sonesta Beach Resort would be perfect. Beautiful pool and adjacent to the most visited single beach on St. Martin where you can watch the airplanes come and go all day long. Within footsteps there is virtually everything you could want in the line of entertainment - great restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, casinos, shops of all varieties and price ranges and all within easy footsteps. If the beach at Maho isn't to your liking you can walk along the golf course and about ten minutes away is beautiful Mullet Bay Beach.

Wherever you end up, enjoy yourself and I feel very comfortable saying you will definitely want to return. This island is totally addictive.....

Orient beach can't go wrong. I agree with the others, you will be back.

To me, I think your best shot would be somewhere in Simpson Bay, to be close to the action The best place to me, if you are determined not to rent a car, would be Royal Palm.

I think you are a regular BVI person, which could mean that you comparing SXM to the BVI. Cars in SXM are DIRT cheap, as compared to the BVI, and in SXM, you do drive on the 'correct' side of the road, versus the BVI. So you might want to reconsider the no car deal. Most folks who go to SXM travel around to different beaches while they are there and many or most don't just hang out at the beach at their hotel.

Regardless please do post any other questions you have and enjoy your trip!
