RAIN OUT TODAY

So far.....all we have seen here on the island today is rain....rain...and more rain. The sun has totally disappeared, and it is a very dark, dank and DEPRESSING day! In twenty five years or so of coming down, i think this is only the second time that it has been a washout day. It is now 2:30, and usually any storm would be gone...but so far looks like this one is staying close. Well, i guess a rainy day in SXM, still beats a rainy day anywhere else!!! Got here Saturday night late...and had a few sprinkles also, but it didnt last long. Yesterday was nice weather, but again some rain last night. I sure hope this weather pattern ends soon. Luckily, we still have another 19 days here.

Funny thing, Ed, years ago, pre timeshare and in the early days of owning same, we used to come in March every couple of years. And for the most part, every year we did we had less than terrific weather. It got to be so much the norm for us, friends used to ask if we were going because if so, they were not taking any chances. And yet, Kim has been going for quite a while now at this timeframe and this is the first March trip she's experienced bad weather.

It's one of those 'it is what it is!' things, and as is so often said, a rainy day on SXM will always trump most days this time of year here at home. Or, you could think in terms of the island really needs the rain. Or the golf course really needs it. Lots of platitudes, right? Awww Ed...it's tough when the sun takes a holiday when you're in SXM! Unfortunately the weather has been wonky all over the world due to El Ninjo this year. We were in Jamaica a few weeks ago and we had at least 4 rainy days out of ten. Last week I was in Mexico on business and it was very windy and rainy...probably another 4 out of 10 days of yucky weather. Lucky you to have another 19 days!

Actually when we were going to Regatta every year, we often had a fair amount of rain and wind and it was somewhat chilly, although we never had a total rainout day then. In May a couple of years ago, we had two whole straight days of rain. And YEARS ago, when we were staying at Club O, we had something like four straight days of unending rain. We actually were happy to go home that time!!!

We've been coming in Feb./March for 40+ years; this is the most rain & cloudy days I've seen. Yes, good for the island but today must be a record. Still no sun @ 4:00 PM. We went to Phillipsburg to shop & ended up just having lunch. Cruisers were drenched. This is 6 days of clouds/rain in the 3 weeks we've been here. We've had to dash to the beach when the sun comes out!

I'm still working so tough to feel sorry for you!!

I would agree, in our 30+ years coming here, cannot recall weather like this.

We have been coming to the Island almost 20 years now. If you count up all the days its way over 8 months. First year it was a week, then two and now a month. Late January to late February time frame except for one year. Of the 240 days or close only two wash out days of rain meaning it rained all day. This year there wasn't a day that was completely free of clouds...pretty unusual. Has anyone one else noticed this? Not complaining just stating a fact.

Yes, we have noticed that too. There seems to now be more rain in the supposed " dry season" and less rain in the "wet season"! It makes for interesting trip scheduling! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Also there has been much more wind on this island than there was years ago. The weather has been noticeably changing!

Sorry to hear that. Never had that problem the last several years we have been going. Don't have to worry about it now. My retirement was cut so with that down prices up we'll just read traveltalkonline. It was nice. Hope you all enjoy.

I am in NJ and it has been raining all day and is 42 degrees I can assure you are rainy day in SXM is better than anywhere else. Find a bar <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

I'm part of a group that goes to Orient every January, and this January was no exception. We did not have any rain outs like described here, but we had 2 or 3 days with no wind (which is not unheard of, but unusual for Orient Beach). We then all complained it was too hot! A trip to the bar cooled us off (plus a swim). So 2 conclusions to draw is: There is no pleasing us tourists, and finding a bar is always a viable option, no matter what the problem!

Sort of feeling your "pain" Sandy...but know our garden must be happy today!!

All blooming happily - had to move pots around, they & the island were swamped! I'm sure the mosquito larvae are hatching happily also!

So you've been there for three weeks and you have haid six days of rain? Wow! I don't think we've had that much rain in Forty-three years of SXM trips. Honest! Counting on it Pat! Glad we went to Grand Case Beach yesterday despite the predicted showers & few cloud covering. Yes, very unusual! But also true for home with higher temps., etc. Hope for a few sunny days before we head home. It's always a vacation whatever the weather!
