They had a website but it was "under construction" every time I checked it. Still appears to be that way.

That's the number for the hotel, which is right there on the premises and operated by the same people, but may not be the best number for a chair rental. Still, it's worth a try.

So I sent a message on Facebook and haven't heard Back (3/29). Can anyone elaborate on chair rental fee or is it like Karackter. Policy? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Maybe best to just call? But pretty sure no charge, but not a place to bring your own picnic

Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/02/2016 12:35 PM

We were there in early February. Had four chairs, no cost. We did eat lunch there and had drinks.
btw- Bartender Anthony, http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc2/sxmnorm/2016%20Jan-Feb%20SXM%20Trip/IMGP3429_zpsfmzhbuds.jpg , makes real banana BBC's. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc2/s...zps4jvynry7.jpg Wonderful! Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/02/2016 11:23 PM

We've enjoyed days with drinks and lunches at El Zafiro but in checking out Norms photos, I'm wondering if the breakfasts shown were from there, too. Personally speaking, I'd rather go out for breakfast than for lunch so that would be a real treat if we could do breakfast on the beach, too. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

We might try breakfast there since we will be so close. With that said I am more of a lunch girl for a variety of reasons. Lunch will definitely be on my radar!

During February we spent 3 days at El Zafiro and chairs/loungers were free with the purchase of food and beverage. Also, we looked at the rental unit they had just finished. The unit looked good but I had concers with night time security. Enjoy!

Will definitely have a drink here and maybe a breakfast. Nice to have something so close so we can have some drinks and not worry about driving! Almost single digits!

I make a pretty mean Dirty BBC with real bananas, but might just have to test out his to compare! (We and another couple have been getting ready for SXM vacation by having some of these with our dinner nights at my house. Getting us psyched for sure!!)

Where is it located?

Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/11/2016 07:47 PM

On White Sands Rd just before Beachside Villas. You will go by Sunset Bar and Grill and drive along the airport runway fence.

Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/11/2016 09:47 PM

How would you compare them to Karakter? Food? Service? Drinks? Prices? Beach conditions?
Posted By: Shelby2

Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/11/2016 10:02 PM

We visited here on our March trip and LOVED it!! Great food, drinks, service at tables or on the beach. Hands down favorite over Karakter thus year where chairs were CRAMMED together, bad service. El Zafiro is our new go to spot on Simpson Bay!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

Re: El Zafira beach Bar - 04/11/2016 10:12 PM

Just one persons opinion but if you're a big fan of Karakter as we know it today, you probably won't be as wild about El Z.

It's much more laid back and the seating is more spacial but the chairs and umbrellas are similar, or at least was to what Karakter offered the last time we were there, about a year ago. It doesn't draw as many people which quite truthfully is what we enjoy most about it. The music tends to be way calmer and quieter than that which we last experienced at Karakter.

Take a look at the photo earlier in this thread of the bar which is to the rear center of the main dining area. I think food is such an objective thing - so many rave over the lolos and I can't stand them. I have a few favorite places I've recommended and others go and are often disappointed. The best thing to do is try it and draw your own conclusions.

I think the service is good but not annoying or intrusive. Again, it's all about your own personal preferences. We were there the other day and had Cesare Salads with freshly prepared seasoned sauteed shrimp and they were delicious. DH had a pulled pork sandwich served on a baguette with sweet potato fries and he said it, too, was yummy. Prices, IMHO, are fairly comparable to the other beach places. The breakfast menu was typical as was the extent of the lunch choices, or at least I thought so. There were several Creole style choices but that is not something I particularly enjoy.

It's way up-scale from Rosies on Mullet and well below Dreams and Anse Marcel Beach Resort. And yet, each one of these is delicious, but each in its own way.....all good - all different! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Re: El Zafiro beach Bar - 04/12/2016 12:04 AM

I agree with Pat; the chairs have become much too close together at Karakter, although I do still love the food there. Fortunately for us, there are enough days in our vacation to enjoy both places a couple of times. When we were last at El Zafiro, their kitchen wasn't fully operational, so I'm excited to experience their full menu. We always found the service to be excellent.

Back at El Zafiro today. I'm liking this place more and more. Anthony and the rest of the staff are very friendly. It's my go to place on this side of the island now.

Re: El Zafiro beach Bar - 04/25/2016 03:44 PM

I'm guessing you can walk there from where you're staying?
Posted By: pat

Re: El Zafiro beach Bar - 04/25/2016 10:15 PM

Much as we love the ribs at Rosies on Mullet, EZ has pretty much become our go-to place, too. It's very casual and as I've said before, the service is good but not breathing down your neck type of good. Food is good, or at anything we've had has been, but it's not Dreams quality. The only disappointment for me is the waves tend to be a little on the rougher side so water access is not as easy some days, but I have the same issues on Mullet, too, on a less than 'Mullet kinda day'......

My best suggestion is give it a try and if it's not your cup of tea, or glass of beer as the case may be, don't go back. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Re: El Zafiro beach Bar - 04/25/2016 11:10 PM

We thought we'd spend more time there, but time has a way of slipping away.
We went for a drink one afternoon and lunch another day.
We will go back in November and hopefully we will get the calm water we were so surprised to have at BSV again.
The water was as clear as Mullet on a good day, warm and so blue.
