Lunch in Marigot

Lunch in Marigot - 01/26/2017 01:38 AM

We have been coming to the island for 12 years, stay on the Dutch side and rarely get to Marigot. Having friends with us this year, we would like to take them to explore Marigot for a day and would like some lunch recommendations, as well as anything else we should check out.
Thanks ahead for your responses.

Tropicana in the Marina is excellent for lunch.

I agree Tropicana is excellent. Bistro Nu is also very good. If you go on a Thursday check out Roland Richardson's gallery. He paints there that day and it is interesting to watch.

La Croissanterie - This hole-in-the wall place offers a great breakfast & lunch menu with water views at reasonable prices. Marina Port La Royale, Marigot

When we bring new visitors to Marigot we visit The Blue Mall, mainly for the architecture, there isn't much inside, Fort Louis, the view is worth the climb, the vendors, and Serafina's.

If you go to the outdoor market near the harbor, the small restaurants between the market and the parking lot serve good native dishes and are frequented by locals and tourists alike. Good for people watching. We make at least one visit each year. Also buy an only in SXM Tee shirt at the "Secret Spot" vendor.

Tropicanna or Rosemary's if you want an upscale LOLO with local food. She's a sweetheart lady.

O Plongeoir, just past the West Indies Mall. Great food - this is where many French locals eat.

Tropicana is excellent for lunch & dinner. I've only ever had breakfast at La Croissanterie, but based on reviews we've got to try it for lunch, also. Best croissants.

Are you saying the bistro on the sidewalk is open? How about the upstairs restaurant? How I loved dining at this place, both for lunch and dinner. Can anyone comment?

I think you mean the West Indies Mall. The Blue Mall is on the Dutch side, in Cupecoy.

Paris Bistrot in Marina Port La Royale, very nice, great food. Run by the same people who run the Sunset Cafe at GCBC.

off subject but does anyone remember when the water came up to La Vie en Rose? Before the area was filled in for the marketplace.

Re: Lunch in Marigot - 01/26/2017 09:34 PM

I don't remember the water coming right up to the restaurant but I do recall how much different the area was prior to the dredging and filling in of the harbor and the creation of the seawall there. Back in the late 70's or early 80's there was already a narrow paved road with parking along it on the water side as I remember it so it had to be before then. I do recall taking the girls there in 1983, the first year of their visits and the road was already there and the market area had plenty of room for stalls and shoppers. The fishermen used to bring their boats right up to the waters edge and sell their fish from the boat to the people along the water side. I think the major Marigot changes might have taken place in the late 80s or very early 90s but I'm not too sure exactly when they happened. They did seem to come in tandem with the filming of the cruise ship movie that was partially filmed there. And then again, my memory could be faulty.

Any restaurant in marina Royale. We love la main a la pate, la croissanterie, Tropicana. Near the market bistro de la mer has great food. But don't limit yourself we have never had a bad meal in Marigot day or night.

Yes, I did. It was Jeff from DK Gems who posted some great food photos from there earlier this month.
