Luiz & his bathing suit booth.

If you are going to get new bathing suit made & you only want one make sure you stipulate that. I went for 1 & he had picked a second pattern overnight & made me a second one in a different pattern not of my choosing. It was awkward to say the least. I'm thinking he's trying to make up for his loss of income last year when the buildings were torn down. I wasn't impressed. When I told him I was planning to lose weight this year & would need a new one next year he said they were made to alter to a smaller size. Lol.

how much do they cost?

I hope you did not feel forced to purchase the second one. That is certainly not a good business practice by Luis. He will be losing more business if he continues to do this. I have heard a few things about him recently that were concerning.

While I like Luiz, I've had issues with him as well when it's come to the suit fitting me as they always come out too small (top & bottom) and I'm not comfortable. When you confront him that you're not satisfied, he gets mad and argumentative and so I no longer buy from him. His suits are around $80 to $100 and if you want a wrap to go with it, it's another $25 to $40. I can't justify spending that kind of money on a bathing suit that SHOULD fit perfectly but does not and so it sits in the drawer.

I thought about ordering a suit a few years ago but decided against it after reading some negative reports.

I know I'm in the minority but I bought a two piece, cover up and thong and it cost me $240 maybe 10 years ago. The top did not fit well at all, it was shapeless. Luis redid the top and it fit better but still wasn't anything I was happy with. I hated the cover up, it was shapeless and too short.

No hate, just saying I wasn't happy and would not buy again.

My suit is a 2 piece suit with an unlined tankini top extra. It fits well & I love the material. It is very good quality material. It cost $250 U.S. He said normally $325 but as I'm a repeat customer it was less. Not sure about that.

Had same experience and no longer deal with him-moved on to other vendors

Hmmm....after seeing what the rest of you paid, maybe I got a deal after all (been at least 10 years) but if you can't wear it because it doesn't fit right, then it's really no deal no matter what you've paid!

Just my opinion but I always thought this was kind of weird. "Please get naked and I will fit you with a custom suit" Then you hear a lot of dissatisfaction, which leads you to believe he isn't much of a creator of custom suits. Again just my opinion as I am sure he has many satisfied ladies.

I agree. Then he gets paid too. What a job..

Bathing suits don't keep you warm, they don't keep you dry, and the don't cover enough to really matter, so why bother.

Wearing a bathing suit, or not--at the proper place and time--is a personal choice..

You do need a bathing suit or something if you are going down the beach to eat at a restaurant or shop the beach boutiques. My benefit is that because I am a pear shape let's say & have never been able to get a proper fitting bathing suit where the bottoms come up higher & the tankini top is longer to cover the middle bits I am happy that I was able to get that.

I shopped at Luiz's for the first time this past November and it will be my last visit to his shop. First of all, he was very pushy, trying wraps on me without me asking for his help, showing me bathing suits when I told him I was just looking at wraps, etc. But the final straw was that he priced a wrap to me and I told him I still wasn't sure and then when I went back the next day to purchase it he went up on the price by $20. When I questioned the difference in one day he was adamant that he never told me the lower price. I told him I wasn't interested and left. I won't be back.

My wife had a similar experience too, and we haven't been back. It's funny - his is a business that could benefit hugely from word of mouth, especially from repeat visitors to the island who tend to share their experiences on travel forums.

Luiz tried to rip us off a couple years ago with a second swimsuit which we did not order. We were repeat customers at the time. It does not get any lower to rip off faithful customers. We will never set foot in his booth.

I bought one from him that was gigantic and did not even come close to fitting. When I complained he told me it was because I was fat and needed it that big. In my opinion his clothes are overpriced poorly fitted, not to mention his argumentative behavior.

What a horrible statement to make to a customer! He deserves whatever happens to his business.

Sounds like he doesn't deserve any business.

OK, I don't really know him from Adam, but I think it's time for this one to be over.
