This just confirms why SXM had a crime problem to me. They said the police are only going to step up "controls" during carnival season. I guess the rest of the year it is not important.

It's not just SXM. We were on a cruise that docked in Tampa and found guards, dogs police waiting for our ship. They'd gotten a tip about drugs. Next days newspaper said largest drug bust in Tampa's history.

Had friends on the Air Canada Rouge flight. They were supposed to take off at 4:30pm. Apparently a big dispute between the St Maarten authorities and Air Canada over jurisdiction. 2 people were deplaned and then their luggage was found and offloaded as well and dogs searched the cargo hold. Plane left the gate about 10:30pm but the crew timed out before takeoff. They taken, eventually to the Hotel Mercure and left about 1pm the next day.
