Le Galion Hotel - 05/06/2017 10:29 PM

Anyone have any idea when the Le Galion Hotel might have been first built?

Our first trip to the island, stayed at Le Galion--probably 85 or 86. No menu at the restaurant, you ate what they served. We walked over to CO and found more selection. We were on the first floor near center, adequate. There was a small store that sold Raisins swim suits. The walk or trail to CO was near the natural point, seems like a longer walk now. CO only had a few thatched poles and palms for cover, no umbrellas or chairs that I remember. A young blond couple sold drinks on the beach. She took the orders. Next visit we stayed at CO. Much easier and better food.

Would guess early '70s. Was well established on my first visit to Orient at end of 1980. A number of Le Galion guests were over regularly, using beach and eating at CO. (CO did have chairs and umbrellas incidentally even in the early days.)

These links might help you narrow the timeframe for the beginning of Le Galion Hotel… (there’s more island history/info on this somewhat dated website for those interested.)
