Anyone ever stay @ 92 boulevard grand case ? - 07/03/2017 12:34 AM

Hi all, sorry for the million questions today!

Just looking at our place at 92 Boulevard du grand case( Catalina Apt) and it is next to La Villa.

Has anyone ever stayed here? Can we walk to a grocery store?

Is there a place to rent beach chairs/umbrellas on the island? Nobody ever replied to that question when I asked it before.

so excited!!

We have never used them but they do get good reviews. Look up Pack Light run by Craig for chairs, umbrellas, coolers etc..

Thank you! I'll look into that!

Wonder if shipping something to the villa is an option?

Yes, we have stayed in a unit there. It was a lovely place. There is a small convenience store less than a block away that had some basics and there's a nice French bakery nearby too.

Yay, good to know! Is there more than one villa in the building?
That would make sense as the pictures we have seen are totally different on booking.com than they are on someway, yet they have the same name and the same description. Just different furniture. One is all white leather and modern and the other is dark wood and slightly dated.
Which one did you stay in?

It is quite expensive to ship anything to most of the Caribbean islands. Not like the mainland, so if there is no one at the villa to accept whatever is sent you may never receive it. We have rented many villas over the years and every owner has mentioned how unreliable mail or shipping goods to an island can be. Most owners from the USA or Canada will ship a barrel of goods they can not get on the island. It can often take up to three months for a barrel shipped from the USA to reach an island. Even a small light package sent by FedEx or DHL costs a bundle. Not all islands have either of those shipping options.

We've never stayed there, but toured it a couple of years ago. Beautiful location. I think there were like 4 units there. I don't know about the grocery store question. Have you checked with the owners of the unit about beach chairs and umbrella? Many places provide them. If not, as someone else said, Craig at Packlight does that, very inexpensively. Just google Packlight SXM. The only bad thing about his chairs is that most of them are the 'sand' type chairs, which are very low to the ground. He rents coolers and cell phones also. As someone else said, VERY expensive to ship to the island. Not recommended for someone just on holiday.

We use Craig @ Packlight every year, great guy! Also , Jeannie from Shop & Drop, one of the sponsors here, can provide groceries brought directly to your location.

Yes, there are several units in the building. We rented from Jean Pierre who resides in Paris much of the year but has a local manager who meets you at the unit to provide the key. His unit is on the second floor...on the right side when facing the building. It has a small balcony on the street side which looks out on LaVilla and has a gorgeous view from the back deck, although the back deck is narrow. What's cool is that the whole wall of sliding doors opens to make the main living area part of the deck, if you're not using the air conditioning, As I recall he has some small chairs available that we used on the beach outside the unit, We usually rent chairs and umbrellas when we go to other beaches so didn't use them for that purpose.

That must have been the one we toured, as I remember seeing LaVilla and LeCottage from the window in the back by the street. The view was stunning, yes and the location great!

We stayed there last year & enjoyed our stay, but ultimately decided to go back to our usual stomping grounds of the grand case beach club this year. We are perhaps very spoiled, so take my comments with a grain of salt....This unit is nice enough, but lots of little things that make it just ok *for us*....no tvs in bedrooms, no screens on sliding doors or windows, blue bedroom shades don't go up, having to drag our own beach chairs in & out when we leave for lunch stinks. No sun on the beach side until noon. No house phone to make local calls. Missing wash cloths. There is a half bath in the hallway, but it appears out of order & is functioning as a storage closet. Pluses include a fantastic location, being right on the beach, view, sliding doors opening up, plenty of space to spread out. The location of the unit can not be beat. We walked down to the Rainbow twice to use their beach chairs & have full service. We also did an afternoon at les cerise temps and used their chairs for lunch & an afternoon of lounging. There is a small grocery/convenience store that we walked to on our way home from rainbow, but if buying anything heavy (drinks) it is a bit far with heavy stuff. Happy to answer any questions!

Thank you so much! I figured the unit would be no frills considering the price. I am going as a guest of my sister and her husband, so I'm not complaining!
I have questions...
1.How many units in the entire building?

2.Are the beach chairs and umbrella for the unit or for the building to share?

3.Was it buggy at night if you left the sliding door open?
How about the day, were you able to leave the sliding door open when you were in the villa during the day without mosquito problems?

We leave tomorrow! So excited! I'm sure we will take advantage of GCBC for a day or two of beach service. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Re: Anyone ever stay @ 92 boulevard grand case ? - 07/04/2017 02:24 AM

I believe Citrusgirl21 must have stayed in a different unit than we did. We were there 2 years ago and again this March. Jean Pierre's unit does not have blue blinds in the bedroom and the half bath in the hallway is usable. It is correct that there is no TV in the bedrooms. There are no screens but that's not unusual, nor is not getting wash clothes when you're in a unit like this out of the US.

We had no issue with bugs during the day when we had the doors open, although we often used the air conditioning. At night the owner recommends that you use the roller shutters that close over all the doors and windows for security reasons and we did that. The other comments about sun, etc., were correct but we loved sitting on the deck in the shade with our morning coffee and would have found it too hot with sun. We tend to visit lots of different beaches so we really didn't spend much time on the beach there during the day. It's a pretty view and nice beach to walk but prefer other beaches for sitting for the day.

I believe there are 4 or 5 units, but I'm not sure. The ground level has garage stalls, so only apartments on the top 2 floors.

I'm a little fuzzy on the chairs; as I recall there were a couple in basement level, which has the door to access the beach that we could carry out to the beach by the unit. They were the inexpensive low ones and not ones that you'd probably want to carry to other beaches. The beach by the apartment is pretty narrow and as the other posted said, it's shaded during the day.

I believe there were 4 units with an office on the steepled top floor.
We stayed in Sebastien's unit - the white leather modern one, top floor to the left when viewing from the street.
IIRC, there were 4 plastic lounge chairs in the basement, with no designation which unit they were for. I don't recall an umbrella.
At night, there were mosquitos, but no problem during the day. I def recommend keeping the rolling shades down at night for security.
Have a great trip!

Also, just to note - we used the GCBC beach chairs ($20 maybe?) but we weren't allowed in the pool area - requires a key card for entry & exit. Let us know how your trip is going!

We are here! Yes, I totally understand what you mean now. It is ok, location and view are great. It's like we are on a ship the water is the only thing we see out the windows! We did not bring power converters &#128577; The furniture is so uncomfortable and the bed in master has sides of wood like guard rails but not. It's part of the design. Odd. The basement is kinda odd too. Dark and dank and very messy. There is a family staying here in the other apartment and things are left everywhere. They also use the only three loungers available. I would not stay here again. There is a garage but we are blocked in by people illegally parking in front of it. LoL
Despite all this it is still gorgeous water for swimming and the balcony is small but lovely. A comfy couch and chairs are desperately needed in this unit. The futon couch is the only place to sit. I'd rather they get rid of the huge dining room table and make it living room furniture.
We are enjoying the weather , water and each other.
Won't be staying in this apartment again.
