I think they shut power off certain times of day, different areas, they will always say something broke.. I think they just can not supply the amount needed, especially in the very hot monthes... that's my take, as I have called them many a time when power was out, and its always the same ole story... they lie.

Sasasal, that shutting off is load shedding. It's the 'TURBO CHARGER'! What a bunch of numbnuts. I can't remember how many "new" engines they bought over the last 20 years.
I miss the Saturday Night Rat. RIP
Cheers

Ok. well what ever it is or was!!! Very bad. They also used to cut the water... Imagine being in the shower all soaped up, and water stops... Oh boy.. By the way, I could be wrong but in the keys, these shutdowns are and was down the worst times of day. After 12 am, and or aroung 5pm.. As we all know without electric, not fans not air conditioner... People that have homes there full time need generaters. We never invested in one, as we are there only in the winter months north east, so we have suffered... Not sure how they allow this unqualified company to go on... I probably have called them every name in the book, and even resorted to telling them that if someone is on oxygen, they would be responcible for there death... I know but no fun with power down so much... No respect for this company at all.

Sasasal,
Imagine being in dentist's chair being drilled!
The company is owned by the government so that's why they are there! I wouldn't bother calling them..............
cheers

That's why the electric fence at the end of the airport runway would never work.

That's funny Tom. But I think the Airport is on it's own grid so yea, it would work. LOL

oh my!!! same ole same ole... What a horror for people living on Island. I have been privy too a lot of these issues, and its enough to make your hair stand straight up.. For those living in private apts. or homes, this is just so awlful.... Why has this gone on and on? These people do not or are not able to maintain there equiptment, and are being allowed to have the Island held hostage. Very frustrating....

The island has way out-grown diesel gen-sets. It's time they built a proper power plant with traditional and uber reliable turbine-generators. With all the natural gas available in the Caribbean (Trinidad) they could build a gas fired plant that's also much cleaner than diesel. The maintenance and fuel savings alone would repay the cost on the investment in a very reasonable amount of time. Adding in some renewable energy sources like wind and solar couldn't hurt either, and they can really help with peak demand issues during the heat of the day.

Bonds can be sold to finance it, just as they did for the new airport. There are also several companies in the business of building power plants that will finance it themselves, build it and maintain it for the rights to sell the electricity, at a rate that's agreed to up front. Diesel-gen is a very expensive way to make power, so the island would likely see much improved reliability at a cheaper rate. Cleaner air too. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />
