Care packages for friends

Care packages for friends - 09/23/2017 01:11 PM

Morning. We are going to send a couple care boxes to our friend who lives on Dutch side but used to work on Orient via 4 Star Cargo. They can be flown in and picked up at their location. Can anyone suggest what items might be needed the most? She told us cleaning supplies, food items but I was wondering if anyone could give us specific things that would be good to send. Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm also trying to send a care package - my friend said canned foods like spaghettios, tuna, canned veggies, dry mashed potatoes, velveeta cheese, hygiene items, etc.

I am not familiar with 4 star cargo or safe cargo which she said was open...any hints on how to ship that method??

I have used Four Star cargo in the past and have had good service from them. Contact them at this site.

So I pay to ship it to Miami & then pay to ship it to SXM? Is that correct?

Correct. That is the least expensive way that I know of to ship to SXM.

I've read on another forum that the recipient must go pick it up and that it must be day of arrival as there are no storage facilities on SXM.

The BVI has cancelled Customs and Duty charges on imports for rebuilding materials and necessary goods.

Does anyone know how SXM is handling this right now? I'm sure it's a very "loose" system at the current time. Everyone must be present to do a pick up when the goods arrive.

Along with the canned goods and dry goods, include hygiene products, paper, pencils and also rat poison, as infestation is inevitable. Also mosquito repellent.

I have the best agent ever at 4 star. Damian. He said to mark on the box Hurricane Relief. Here is what Damian wrote on Tuesday.
[color:"blue"]We are operating our AIR service on schedule as long as the airport can handle the flights. If you want it shipped AIR please mark the box(es) HURRICANE RELIEF.

Our ocean service is operating but delayed. The ocean facility was severely damaged and they are still trying to secure it, and make it safe to unload the containers. There is a backlog of containers that were in transit when IRMA hit so they will start with those by next week we hope, but at a reduced capacity because of the curfew and diminished resources. We are estimating a three week delay in cargo shipped this week, so about a month to get the packages via ocean, at least until they are caught up.

Thank You for Shipping with Four Star, we are glad to have you onboard!
[/color]He is so prompt when you write to him. I pay to ship it on sxm's end too so they just have to go pick up the package.

Also thank you for the suggestions to ship. We are shopping today and shipping tomorrow!

It looks like Jeannie from Shop 'n Drop has setup a program to help us make donations to help our friends on the island. For details, please see: Huricane Irma Donations.

Yes I have I launched it yesterday ... as many of you know I am the owner of shopndrop grocery... I used my website that I had developed for shopndrop st Bart's and started this program.

I wanted it to be about grocery so basically you are donating for grocery vouchers and I will be working with a local team and grand marche to get these vouchers to the local community...

100% of your donation is directly applied to purchase the vouchers for distribution and I will charge a 5% transaction fee to process your credit card. They can go and buy what they need based on their families personal needs.

I am doing this because , it is an island I call my second home and I need to use the resources I have to do what I can.So your participation in this program is tremendously helpful. Some from TTOL have already donated. 100% transparency in the program and donors will be fully involved and informed on all activities.

Please see the the Facebook post

For all those who were interested the Grocery Voucher Donation Program the site is live now.

The website is www.shopndropgroceryirmaassist.com

The details of the program is online under Program Info and FAQ

Lucinda Frye and Dr Nicole Erna Mae Francis Cotton (Victorious Living Foundation) a lady I have known for many years will assist me in this endeavor. The goal is to ensure the families that need support sign up to receive the donation and Lucinda and Nicole will assist me with the distribution of the vouchers.

Thank you for your support. Please pass the link on to both the families that need the support and the individuals that want to donate so they are informed of this program.

Re: Care packages for friends - 09/28/2017 05:09 PM

In case Jeannie doesn't see this right away, you can donate in the name of a friend there as long as they sign up with Jeannie, too. At least, that's how I understand it.

And as a thought, instead of donating in multiples of a hundred, you can do so in fifty dollar increments which might possibly go further if the need is there, and I suspect it will be.

I think Jeannie is doing a great thing for the people of the island and we should remember, she, too, has lost her livelihood, at least for the time being.

SXM will be back, stronger and more resilient, for sure! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

DONATE THIS WAY FOR SPECIFIC FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!! The cost of shipping 116 pounds of things to our friend cost almost 4 times as much as the items. REALLY STUPID.

What I have been hearing are the mosquitos arent so bad due to fogging, but the flies are extremely bad because of the late garbage pickups and food from fridges that were in ruined places. I suggest any kind of flytrap/bags from any hardware store.
