jet blue - 10/07/2017 05:46 PM

I just asked jet blue on facebook if they would be resuming flights from jfk this month... they said the airport is closed until Nov. 2 as of now, they however will review relief flights... So not sure what this means, since American is flying from Miami to sxm... they have there own site on facebook... I guess I will call jet blue to see if they say the same thing,

I have to say this here. Anyone who is going to SXM in the near future has to be prepared for a LOT of difficulty, especially flying in and out of PJIA, which is NOT going to be easy, comfortable or convenient for quite some time. At this point, if you are concerned about having to book a connecting flight, you probably should not be considering even going. Having to book a connecting flight will be the LEAST of your troubles, BEFORE you arrive in SXM. Having a connecting flight into and out of an airport that at least has power, a/c, food, etc., is a whole different situation than flying in and out of Juliana, which will not have the above for quite a while. And then once you arrive, your troubles will multiply, ten fold...

I imagine the airport Post Irma is like the old airport of the 1980's. No air conditioning, limited wait areas, limited restrooms, no luggage carousals, limited gates, very limited flight rebooking. Rental cars would be at a premium, because many appeared to be damaged. Much as many of us would like to help the economy recover, it would not be a pleasant vacation and we will be competing for scarce goods and services which our local friends require to get their lives back together, if we return too soon.

Your so right... but We have a home there, with much damage according to finally photos sent to us. The longer we do not get there, the more damage. I know the devastation and of cource know it will take a long time for this Island to get back... For us, its just god awlful... Our hand are tied for sure... And on top of that, god knows if anything in the house is left thanks to thieves.... Well just looking to get back, not for a vacation, but to try and see what we can do to get the house somewhat back... Not anytime soon the way it looks... This is terrible for the Island, terrible for vacationers, and terrible for invested people...

Good Luck on your home and possessions. Timeshare owners like us only have a limited stake as far as property and possessions on Sint Maarten, but we consider it our second home during the Winter for two weeks. We have been returning since 1984. We did return in February after Luis in 1997, and one of our units was unusable. It was later repaired, but the rest of SXM was still recovering. We felt good to help the economy there by using the available services - auto rental, restaurants, general shopping. Are anxiously waiting to see if we can return in Feb of 2018.

I have no idea whether this meets your needs, but you could fly Norwegian JFK-PTP and then fly PTP-SFG on one of the local carriers. Last I heard, SFG was open for business.

We live in northeastern Pa... Its hard enough getting to Jfk. and then to sxm non stop.. We are in our early 70s. Flying these days is pretty exhausting under normal conditions. so non of the options are going to work... Must say!!! this is not the time of life to have this house and where its located... Of cource now we are stuck with it... Our time has been up a long time... So we are selling it for $1.40. lol

First there has to be water and elec. and Not the kind that says for a few hours and is gone... Nothing can get back to normal without this... I know for sure!!! that after Louis in 1995 the water and elec issue stayed for many a moon... On and off every single day... And this was a much worse storm, so!!! lets hope for the best, but traveling to this Island since the 1980s. Oh boy... gebe has held the island captive to there very faulty facility. We know, we lived with it and spent many years with elec. water off and on . in good times, elec. and water shut... Ok I am pessimistic. but realistic people are...sorry for the errors, I think and type too fast..

We actually went to SXM in December following Luis. Outside of minor inconveniences like short periods of no electric, warm rather than hot water at times, we had a great vacation. No crowds easier driving, restaurants we like most were all open an welcomed us with gratitude. We are scheduled to go Dec30, our resort is scheduled to be open Dec.1, but we have not yet decided. Pictures we have received are looking very good.

Well that was Louis... this is Irma. cat 5 or more. And if you were able to stay at some resort, so be it... there are people that have private homes, and they are last on the list for elec and water... Can you exist? probably not... different issues.

sasasal--Everyone realizes that you are very upset about your property, but you need to give it a rest.

Sasasal, fly commercial to South Florida and then charter a flight to SXM. If you really want to get there, considering all, it will not be that expensive.

Re: jet blue - 10/09/2017 12:47 AM

Or, go to Miami...stay a day or two. Then fly to SXM.

Find answers, not obstacles.

If you cannot go around, go over..under....through.

Not directed to anyone. But a neighbor arrived on island a day or two ago and has been unable to acquire a rental car so far.
