Hmmm, seems they only did visibility testing. Not water quality assessments.?

Yeah, not sure what the 'safe' was based on, in light of the statements in the article about debris still on all beaches..

It takes months for moving sand and water to dull the edges of glass. On the beach, away from the moving water, it could be much longer. Considering all the broken windows and doors, I would be wearing shoes for quite a while. (just like after Luis in 95)

that's actually a big factor that led to us changing our trip form SXM/SBH to Barbados...worrying about cutting our feet when on the beach or in the water <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Spook.gif" alt="" />

interesting to learn nature has a way of dealing with it <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

Surf shoes/water shoes can help to protect your feet.

Absolutely a necessity. After Gonzalo we also got our tetanus shots updated. Never know when a board with nails might be lurking.
