What to expect

What to expect - 12/30/2017 07:53 PM

Hi all. Thinking about making a trip late February and staying at Oyster Pond. What can I expect? Will there be electricity, water, wifi, plenty of restaurants open? Any safety issues that would be any more or less concern than to a year ago? Typically we spend a month on the French side but thought 10 days would be enough considering.....Thank you!

The pinned thread "What's open" has a pretty comprehensive list of what's open at this time.

As far as electric, water, etc, for tourist accommodations, no issues. There are some scattered residential areas that apparently still do not have electric, but otherwise, things should be fine. Wifi, I'm not sure about. As far as restaurants in Simpson Bay, pretty much everything is open. Restaurants in Oyster Pond, I'm not at all sure about. Infinity Restaurant at Oyster Bay Beach Resort is open, but otherwise, not sure. Suggest you check that pinned thread that Georgia referred to. As far as safety issues, even more than before, avoid some purely local areas after night., and follow safety precautions, don't flash money or jewelry, if you use an ATM, be careful, watch your surroundings, and preferably do it during the day only. Grocery stores are open, except for Carrefour in Cole Bay. Rental cars should be fine, as even though a lot were damaged, but the demand isn't nearly what it was.

Just arrived. The Dutch side certainly seems more adavanced as far as bussineses being open. Quite a few restaurants open in the Cole bay/Simpson bay area. Marigot has a few restaurants open in the Marina area. Grand Case only has a couple open along with the Lolo's. Haven't had a chance to investigate Pburg yet. C'mon down, the island needs all the econmic suppot it can get.
