Re: Casino - 02/12/2018 06:43 PM

Would any of those tables include craps?

Wow, that's good news regarding the Dunes!!! I hadn't heard that at all, that they have tables again. The Dunes is so close to Beachside, that is great!

It is our understanding that Dunes will close when the new casino in Simpson bay is open. We were there yesterday and told that they hope to have it open by the end of this month--I think that is a stretch because it doesn't look nearly there. I hope that this is not the case because they just redid it and it is clean and all the workers there are very friendly.

Sorry, why would they close the Dunes because another casino opens?

Re: Casino - 02/13/2018 03:40 AM

Maybe that's why, they have a long history: http://www.todaysxm.com/alegria-resort-wants-to-put-dunes-casino-out-of-business/

There are only a certain number of casino licenses permitted by law. I don't know the details; but that may have something to do with it.

Dunes and Starz is owned by the same person. When Stars was destroyed, they renovated the Dunes, employees have "Stars" uniforms. I doubt the Dunes will ever close, as that is a personal battle between owners, and both have very deep pockets and connections.

Re: Casino - 02/13/2018 02:00 PM

Ok, thanks for that info. I did not know that Starz and the Dunes were owned by the same person. With Casino Royale out of business and no Starz either, about the only game in town is Hollywood, which has been looking very long in the tooth. Although I guess with the Causeway, PDP is not that far..

You are correct on the ownership. I think they also own a third casino in Cole bay. The table games at Dunes do not include craps.

Starz Casino, Beach Casino, Paradise Plaza Casino, and the Dunes Casino all have common ownership.

Isn't it true the owner of these casinos is in jail in Italy?

Francesco Corallo was extradited to Italy last August on charges of tax fraud, bribery, money laundering and membership of a criminal organization. However, upon arrival in Rome, he was immediately released as he spent more time in detention in St Maarten than the charges allow. He said in an interview he has not been directed accused of money laundering or bribery and that these charges have to do with making tax payments that were not made on time. He said all the tax payments have been made, they were just made late.
