Glad to be going back after 6 years!

Glad to be going back after 6 years! - 08/03/2018 08:33 PM

I'm glad to be going back to the island, but unfortunately under sad circumstances. I'm turning 50 next year. I've been to the island twice and always did great things from advice from this forum. Does anyone have something really unique that my wife and I haven't done? We are going to try to get to St. Barths or Anguilla this time. We haven't been to either. But on St. Martin itself??? Thanks in advance! Glad to be back with this forum.

Why sad? Island is coming along and the islanders are welcoming.

Geez, fifty? Lucky you - you’re still a young ‘un!

Unique day trip, IMHO, is Saba. StB and AXA are each gorgeous but they’re both more of the same and a beach is a beach is a beach. Or so it is to me.......... But Saba is beautiful and totally different as is the approach by air or sea.

Unique to SXM, while I doubt it would be my cup of tea, but the Emilio Wilson Park has been developed into a tourist area complete with a sky tram, for want of a better name, that will afford you some of the most incredible views of the island and all the surrounding areas along with what’s been touted as being one of the best restaurants on the island located in a restored original building on the site.

When you have hit a 1/2 century mark

Eat a whole lobster @ ... others can fill in the blanks

Do a Yoga Class @ ... others can fill in the blanks

Rent a Jeep instead of a fart box!

Meet another couple and invite them to dinner. We did that and OMG it was so much fun. He was a pilot we met at SSBB.

Go skinny-dipping!

Get a Massage!

How about making your own perfume? Since I'm almost 70, the name escapes me but somebody here will tell you.

You guys are all making me feel old (74 on7/20, but still enjoying everything, even motorcycling, as much as ever). We'll be going back for the 1st time in 3 years in Dec. - I think the 23rd visit. Looking forward to renewing acquaintances (especially Chloe & Thierry) - kept in touch via FB - and making new ones. Many of our fav restaurants have reopened and also new ones to try. I echo SXMMartini's last 2 suggestions. And, yes Pat, a beach is a beach is a beach.

There is also zip lining at Loterie Farm on the French side. And they have cabanas you can rent around their beautiful pool. It's a nice day in the "forest."

Britt--most of us here are older than 50 and know that life begins at 50!!! grin 50 is just a number, like any number. You are only as old as you feel.

As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I have always appreciated your input to this board. We just booked tickets yesterday with AA for Dec/Jan. I can relate on other levels since we have been vacationing in SXM for more than 30 years and missed for the first time last year. Will be 72 later this month so I can also relate to later middle age crazy.

Emilio Wilson Park, Loterie Farm, and the jeep all sound great. My wife might like the perfume. Saba is something to think about, but now sure how well I'd like it if no beaches and difficult to get into the water.

I have eaten a whole lobster on the island that was huge and recommend that to all who can splurge. We met a couple at one of the beach bars one visit from Europe and we went out to dinner. Totally awesome time! We haven't been to Cupecoy beach yet??? We rode a speedboat around the whole island last time. Worth it!!! I tell these adventures to our friends who go to Caribbean islands and stay at the All Inclusive s and they look at us like we are crazy. I love the people there and love the island!

Where should my "celebration" meal be at?

We go on Tiko Tiko every visit and I certainly wanted to go this time. It sounds like Tiko is down for a long while. Are there any catamaran replacements for this trip?

I think I've been to all the beaches on the French side. Are there any "secret" onces on the Dutch?

Thanks again for all your help. Many of the people on the forum are still here from my last visit. My wife thinks I have all the skills at gathering this great info. And, if you are on the island next 4th of July, beers are on me!

A great celebration meal would be at Bistrot Caraibes or L'Auberge Gourmand, both in Grand Case.
We had a great trip on the catamaran Funseaker out of Anse Marcel. We've known the captain for many years from when he worked at Grand Case Beach Club. If you're on Face Book, Funseaker has a page.

For an excellent catamaran trip contact Captain Neil at Enigma/Celine 3. He offers the best cruises on the island including the best food onboard. It will be a day you will never forget!
