July Condo hunt - 08/06/2018 01:14 AM

We are looking for a condo for two weeks next July for our 50th anniversary. We really like Simpson Bay Resort Villas. Stayed there several times in winter. Need a one bedroom. Thanks

How about Mary's Boon, they have one bedroom condo's with full kitchens. Even July is busy there but for a month maybe you can get a better deal and I think the owner went to school in North Kansas City. Or even Beachside Villas , should be at least a few in Simpson Bay area to pick from.

Hi. Not sure if the original poster is asking ONLY for Simpson Bay Resort, or other suggestions also?

Mark Cleveland is the owner of Mary's Boon. I have no idea where he went to school.

For the SBR villas in particular, Check out the FAQ for websites to look for timeshare listings.

A few years back stayed at a very nice, very private villa called Jubelibra It's in Pelican Key, a gated community, back in passed Simpson Bay resort. We loved the view and the very private pool

Check it out here:

that villa is in Pelican Cove. Have seen a couple of the villas in there and the location is very nice and the ones that I have seen there are very private. The only down side is that there is not a sandy beach there. If there were a sandy beach, I'm sure the prices would be WAY higher than they are. The prices there are pretty reasonable off season. In season, I think everything is expensive! laugh

Right, Pelican Cove, I mis-spoke. Yes I agree but the rocky beach makes for spectacular surf viewing and pictures and being between Simpson Bay and Great Bay you see lots of marine traffic. We usually go to a beach everyday anyway so no beach didn't really matter to us. And yes, if it were sandy beach and still with a private pool it would be even more spectacular. In fact if that had been the case when we stayed there, we might have never left.

Pelican Cove is on Pelican Key, so you were right to begin with! smile I've never actually stayed in that area, but I'm sure you are correct, that the picture opportunities would be lovely!

A nice area with a real 'neighborhood' feel to it. I do remember that there are an annoying amount of speed bumbs on the way back there but I suppose that is somewhat true island-wide. It used to be managed by The Villa Lady but I believe she has retired.

Hi dolfer
Looks like Jubelibra is a 3 BR villa, so I'm not clear if the pool is shared or each unit has a private pool. This looks like a nice place that would work well for us if the pool is indeed private and not shared with other units. Also, is it located between Phillipsburg and Simpson Bay??

TIA

All the villas at Pelican Cove have a private pool for the villa. When you say' between Philipsburg and Simpson Bay", no. To get to Pelican Cove, you go to the end of Billy Folly Road and turn left at the bottom of the hill by LaVista Beach, and then go along that road for maybe a half mile? I'm really bad at distances.

Having a home in pelican key. the views are so breathtaking we can be on our terrace an see the sun rise and the sun set. there are many villas to rent. and some just great. the worst part are speed bumps going up this is a mourntain. but no better place to be and close to ocean... Best place on Island., my opinion. for ocean views sunsets and all around near all.

Thanks, Carol. They show it on the website as a 3BR villa but show the following pricing.

Bedrooms Low Season High Season Christmas
1 $1,750 $2,750 $4,500
2 $2,100 $3,450 $6,000
3 $2,600 $3,950 $7,000

So if a couple were to rent a 1BR they would block off the other two BR's for the duration of our visit?? Or would the other BR's be potentially rented out to other people who we would then share the pool/kitchen with....like at Club F.

How far away is this place from Flamingo? We've stayed there before, so just trying to get an idea from that reference point.

Re: July Condo hunt - 08/16/2018 03:56 AM

Typically, a villa rental is yours and yours alone, and you pay for the number of bedrooms used. The other bedrooms are not rented to other guests, and may or may not be locked off. Using the toilet in an unpaid-for bedroom may be cool, but deciding to sleep there or to have a friend stay over is most definitely not. That being said, confirm with the villa rental agency/manager/site.

Re: July Condo hunt - 08/16/2018 01:00 PM

No one else would be in the other bedrooms, no. They would be locked off. As far as distance, do you not know where LaVista Beach is from Flamingo? If you're going to Flamingo, you go to the bottom of the hill on Billy Folly and make a right. LaVista Beach is right there where you turn right to go to Flamingo. To go to Pelican Cove, you turn left there. As I said, I'm very bad with distances, but I would say maybe a half mile along that road from LaVista Beach. There are a bunch of speedbumps, so you can't go very fast, but that's my guesstimate from LaVista Beach.

Re: July Condo hunt - 08/16/2018 07:23 PM

Thanks, wasn't sure how that worked since it was listed as a 3BR unit. I really like the looks of Jubelibra and really like the fact that it is in a gated community.

My memory isn't what it used to be, and we have only been to SXM a few times, the last being over 4 years ago. I do recall coming out of the airport, crossing a bridge, and turning right at a convenience/supermarket store, then another right passing BBB to go to Flamingo. I remember seeing LaVista, just couldn't recall exact location.

We were initially looking at places to share with one or two other couples, but will be going alone this upcoming trip in May. Just booked air this week, so am excited to finally be returning again. Looking for a nice studio or 1BR with private pool.

Appreciate the info.

If it's just the two of you, like the time we stayed there, they just lock out the two extra bedrooms and you just use the Master Suite which is big and beautiful and has windows on the pool side. Your directions are pretty close. Pelican Cove is a ways back there but it's easy enough to find. We had an idyllic week there for our 25th. I believe you will also have a maid available who greets you and gets you acclimated.
