Have not heard of any rebuilding schedule. They have opened another casino on Airport Rd. in the building where there used to be a Grande Marche, opposite corner of building from Dinghy Dock. Can't think of it's official name.

Norm--do you know if that casino has table games? It was open when we were there in June, but we didn't go in. The Dunes Casino at Alegria is also affiliated with Starz, but it does NOT have table games, or didn't as of June 2018.

I 'assume' that the Starz Casino will be rebuilt, but in June there didn't seem to be much progress toward it.

If the same owners opened this new casino, chances are they have no table games. I know they also own dunes and paridise not table games there. If its a small place, chances are just slots. And believe me, they are takers for sure. lol

The Dunes apparently HAD table games for a while after Starz was destroyed by Irma, but then they took them out. As of June, there was a sign up at Starz that claimed that there were table games at the Dunes. That sign didn't mention the other casino there in the middle of Simpson Bay. I have no idea whether it is owned by the people that own Starz or not, but I assume that Norm is correct when he says that it is.

Used to go to Atlantis, and after a while they took out the craps table, I know because husband and a few friends liked playing there. the choice was casino royal, or Princess. Rumor had it that Francesco who was I think owner, did not want to pay the dealers they needed at the tables. But I do know paridise took out table games, and Dunes. So would surprise me if the new one has them. My husband no longer is into the table games, and I play slots once in a while, but have not been to the new one. Has to be really small considering its location... I will pop in this winter to loose alittle.

During the past two weeks, demolition workers have been taking apart the old Starz casino building -- mostly using sledgehammers and shovels rather than a backhoe. Slow work -- in fact, they stopped working a few days ago.

Back in July, I laughed at the sign they put up on the devastated Starz building. (See attachment below.) Some PR genius thought that "This building was destroyed by a hurricane" wouldn't sound good -- so they came up with the slogan, "Remodeling -- Opening Soon." Right!

Not too soon. I think considering the people they were getting in the casino!!! they probably will walk away. When it was atlantis it was fun and they got the people, but they got greedy and lost alot of regulars. just my opinion. They want to give little and get alot. But thats what casinos are all about.

I do wonder why they are taking so long there. Maybe an insurance issue? I really can't imagine they won't rebuild, as they have a lot of potential customers in that immediate area. Elaine or Lesley--do you have any info on this?

the last number of years they were not getting the people. They used to get some french side people years ago, but taking some games out, and changing the casino they lost alot of people. They focus on slots, thats where they can make the money, but thats for the most part a womans game. Men need table games. just my opinion... Sometimes greed looses out.

Hi Carol ,
They will rebuild eventually . He does have some money blocked right now; hence the slowness.

Lesley - has reconstruction started already? Last we were down demolition had started on the back side. Heard they were gonna knock all down and start over. But that could be wrong.

Hi Kim, no they haven't started the reconstruction as yet; just breaking down the wooded parts.

They are still tearing down the structures along Rhine Rd. Been working at the demo for a month or more, so they are nearly finished, but it's not going quickly. I have also heard it is to be rebuilt.

Re: starz casino - 10/26/2018 10:32 AM

Over the years thats what I have seen... Of course men play slots, but for the most part!!! Its been a woman thing... Do not go to casinos these days, and things could have changed. But back in the day!! Always saw mostly men at the tables... Did not say woman do not play the tables, or men do not play slots... Just thinking majority. Generalizing happens to all of us on this board, and its upsets some, but everyone has there own camera. Anyway my question was answered. thank goodness for those that reside on Island.
