It’s a good day to stay where you are. 6 ships should be nuts! But great for the Island!

What a day for the Sunset Beach webcam to be out of service! Imagine if all those cruisers spent money today, SXM's economy would skyrocket.

The Sunset web cam is working right now for me. Actually not as crowded as one would think.

Working for me too. Looks to be a slow day there considering 6 ships in port.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/14/2018 06:39 PM

The Maho Beach cam didn't appear to be working, as of a few minutes ago, but it doesn't really show Maho any more anyway.. Maybe that's what they meant.

Sunset Cam is back on now.

Even less people on the beach now.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/14/2018 08:12 PM

I wonder what effect hundreds of people buying a beer and getting the wifi password had at Sunset, might be why the camera went offline, likely a fairly heavy burden on their internet network??

I noticed that one ship stayed quite late the other night.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/15/2018 04:12 PM

When we cruised to Aruba we stayed till 1 in the morning. Great way to see all the day and nightlife on an island. With more ships did that at more ports of call.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/15/2018 04:26 PM

Yes, that is a really cool thing, to stay late in the evening like that. We were never that lucky when we were cruising all the time.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/16/2018 09:21 PM

I read a Daily Herald article in September that talked about allowing the ships to stay later. The article made it sound like it was the island rules that regulated how late they stayed vs. a cruise line decision. At least that's what I thought it said.

Re: Port St Maarten webcam - 11/16/2018 09:30 PM

Well, no, not really. They can stay however long they like, but it's a question of how much MONEY the ship has to pay to be in port. Staying in port until the evening costs more. And since the casinos or shops generally can't be open when the ship is in port, it also costs them more money there too.
