Looking to volunteer

Looking to volunteer - 12/01/2018 12:41 PM

We're going to be in St Martin for over a month next summer and my wife and I are looking for a place to spend a few of those days volunteering on the french side.

I've read (somewhere) that the Catholic Church on the French side was completely destroyed but they are meeting in a school next door. I was unable to locate them on FB.

Does anyone know how we can get in touch with them to see if there are ways we can serve while there?

Regarding volunteering, suggest you contact Jeff Jhangiani.at DK Gems.

Regarding the Catholic Church, I know the one in Grand Case was damaged, but still standing. It was still not repaired as of this summer. Not sure if that is the one you are referring to or not.

Which church? The one in Marigot? St Martin of Tours' on rue du Fort Louis?

When you say volunteering, what are you looking to do per se? Spend time, money, use skills? I know of several places you could help in any number of ways on the French AND Dutch sides. There is a garden project in Marigot at the 4 (3?) rotaries that will need planting and upkeep. That's just one example of a level of effort. wink

BeachKitten, I'm not sure. We've been to the island once and fell in love with the place. We were crushed when Irma obliterated Orient Bay and the Village. We're also recent converts to catholicism and I read, somewhere, that one of the Catholic churches on the French side was completely decimated, so we thought it a natural alignment.

We have three kids coming with us, one will be a toddler, but the other two could help doing all sorts of things. Construction work is probably out but the gardening work is something my girls would absolutely love.

Thanks for the help.
