Mount Vernon - 04/17/2019 09:56 PM

Can anyone who is on the island and on Orient Beach, tell us if any work is being done at Mount Vernon? The contract between the insurance company and contractors was signed in March, and when we left mid-March, work had yet to start.
How is the structure on the beach at Esmeralda coming along? Concrete walls were going up a month ago.
Thanks

My wife & I were on Orient Beach last week for the day, we didn't walk too close to Mount Vernon but by the look of things not much construction is underway there. My guess is if the " Island time " schedule is in effect, then the long wait is on.

I actually walked from the beach to the reception area and saw no construction. I did see a lot of damage and I would guess only about 10 to 20 percent is occupied. Actually from past visits in April I don't see as many people on the beaches.

When we stayed at Mont Vernon in February and March, I would estimate 80% of the units were occupied. The units without the ocean view were occupied by individuals or families who worked on the island. Some were there as they waited for their homes, damaged in the hurricane, to be repaired.
The holiday visitors rent the units on the front with Ocean and beach views. Since the pool was damaged, we and others would walk down the beach for the day or go elsewhere on the island and for some of us, meet on the beach before the sun set. The wind during that time was quite high and made the water at the north end of the beach rough. Without the pool, chairs and other facilities, there were not crowds of people.
The first things to be repaired was the pool and the units at the front whose roofs were blown off. These units had a lofted ceiling that did not have the concrete roofs which had the decorative roofs blown off.
If parking and cars are an indication of occupancy, the parking lots were full.

Hi All, Anyone have an update on the conditions at Mount Vernon. We are planning a trip for late January / early February and there are some decent looking units for rent. Any insight into security at the location and condition of the pool and grounds ?

Thanks,
Jim

Dear all,

I and my wife Anette bought an ocean-front ground floor condominium in the Résidence Hôtel Mont Vernon in February 2019 and renovated the interior totally in May. Here’s some information regarding the exterior renovation.

The exterior renovation of the residence started in July. The craftsmen are working on only two buildings at the time and will finalise their job before moving on to the next buildings - i.e. all to minimise disturbance for permanent residents and short term renting guests. As an example, when we now are letting via sites like Airbnb, our building should not be directly affected until a year from now.

(The pool area is closed and should be reopened May 2020).

When choosing an apartment to rent, our advice is that you ask the co-owner when the specific building in the large residence will be affected.

Enjoy your stay!

Kindly, Lars

Hello Lars, Annette

Thank you for the great information. Just a few more questions if you don't mind.

Is there good security at Mount Vernon ?

Do you know if the little restaurant out front is back open ?

If you are interested in renting can you tell us how to identify your condo on AirBnB?

Cheers,
Jim

Dear Jim, all,

Regarding security, the area called Mont-Vernon 1 is calm. There is only one road, Rue du Mont Vernon, that leads to Résidence Hôtel Mont Vernon. The cooperative has employed guards walking both day and night. CCTV cameras are strategically installed among the buildings.

Yes, Pizzeria du Mont Vernon, serving various dishes, is still a great close by option. You will also find Le Taïtu in walking distance as well as the restaurants along the beach of Orient Bay.

Regarding your last question, I will try to send you a private message with a link.

Kind Regards, Lars

We rented for a month last Feb./Mar and stayed in Guadaloupe building, there was security and never had any problems. We enjoyed the Pizza restaurant with many other choices besides pizza. We are planning on staying a month in 2020. We enjoyed our stay very much.
