Taxi costs

Taxi costs - 04/19/2019 02:04 PM

Can someone give me an idea of the cost of a taxi from the airport to Simpson Bay Resort? And, though we don't plan on doing it, from the airport to Orient Beach? On our four trips to St. Martin in the past, we have always rented a car and stayed at La Plantation. This time we are doing that for the first part of our trip but, after a couple days diving in Saba, we are returning on an evening flight and thinking about spending the night on the Dutch side prior to returning to NY the next afternoon. Alternatively, we might rent a car for the one night anyway (since I assume Lesley Bruce will be as efficient as he has been in the past and getting a car for the extra day won't take much more time than getting a taxi).

The airport to Orient Bay Village will run you $35 for two people with luggage each way. Always ask the taxi driver for the cost before getting in, and make sure it's an official St. Maarten taxi service you are using. If the price they quote you is greater than this find another taxi. Keep in mind that the taxi rates on St. Maarten are typically set by zones on the island; there are no running meters. The price does not increase if your taxi gets stuck in traffic. Also, if you double-up with another couple then many times the rate decreases for you and is charged per person. For example, one time we took a taxi from Philipsburg to Orient Beach. The price at that time was going to be $20 for my wife and I. But, we 'doubled-up' with another couple and the taxi driver charged us a combined rate of $30 for the group, or $15 per couple. So, I saved five bucks that day!
