Curious situation. My hubby has gout and takes a pill once a day to avoid flare-ups not after. And is on a strict diet. Sounds like this fellow eats what he wants then when his gout flares he takes meds. That doesn't sound right but what do I know, I'm not a doctor.

Surgery for gout is uncommon, but it does occur. Sometimes buildups and tophi need to be removed. Those who have suffered with gout and who have ready access to drugs such as Allopurinol and Colchicine/Colcrys, as well as control of their diet, can usually control gout. Given his limited access to timely meds, and his inability to control his diet, Theo may be in a different place medically than the majority of gout sufferers. Let his medical team make the call on proper treatment.

He is in prison so he can't just eat what he wants. He is not getting his medicine regularly.

How much beer, shellfish or prime rib or buttery rich pastries do you think are served in prison?

My husbands first Gout attack happened in SXM and he went to the medical center thinking perhaps he'd been bitten on the toe and that was why it swelled painfully. They gave him two prescriptions and said it would only mask the problem and that he'd have to consult his doctor for a regimen of treatment should it happen again. Later, after two more attacks over a couple of years he started on Alupurinol daily and was told you do not take it only when you have a flare up but constantly so that it lowers uric acid and purine levels .

Pre-trial detention T.H. extended by 30 days
***************

Today, the examining judge decided that the pre-trial detention of T.H. will be extended by 30 days.
The case against T.H. and three of his co-suspects will be treated in public on May 27 2019 for the first time. That will happen in the Courthouse in Sint Maarten.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is strongly contradicting what has been said in some media that they opposed the transport of T.H. to a hospital.
If they had checked with the Public Prosecutor's Office, they would have been told that the suspect - who was transferred to Point Blanche at his own request - like all suspects placed there, has access to the necessary medical care. If this involves an examination by a doctor outside the hospital, the suspect will be brought there. This is done in the same way for each suspect, that means in handcuffs. The director of the prison gives the order and not the Public Prosecutor's Office. Until yesterday, the suspect has always indicated that he did not want to be transported in handcuffs.
