Maho Restaurants/Shops - 06/09/2019 01:48 PM

We are visiting St. Maarten the end of June and have not been there since before Irma. Can anyone tell me how the Maho area restaurant and shops are doing? Is it pretty much up and running? Is Pizza Pasta (one of our favorite spots) open? Can't wait to get back to St. Maarten!

Pizza Pasta is gone forever. She sold off the equipment and supplies. The building is not repaired.

Moulin Fou is back as good as ever, Winnie’s Chinese. The casino has reopened.

Fun bar called Hole in the Wall. Music nightly.

JAX has replaced Bajatzu. Three Amigos is still there. There’s a new wine & tapas place.

Pharmacy and market are open. JN Jewelers reopened last week in a new spot temporarily.

It’s coming to life.

La Rosa Too is also open.

We spent two weeks at Royal Islander La Plage in April and never ran out of dining spots though we wandered all over for dinners. The casino has reopened and an ice cream shop, too, if I’m remembering correctly. Tortuga at RI is also open for breakfast, lunch and lite dinners, too.

In addition to what the others said, Cherie's is gone. Never repaired since the hurricane and she has retired. What was Fig now has only a nightclub type deal in there, no restaurant.

Cherie's is for sale $1.7M US

Carol, it was actually already closed prior to Irma. wink

Leona--Ok, didn't remember that, although the original poster didn't say how far before Irma that she last went to SXM. I really liked Fig when they were in Cupecoy. I suspected they wouldn't survive in Maho, due to high rent and competition.

There was also a Jamaican restaurant with some outdoor seating as well as a crepe/smoothie place we visited in November. Are they still there?

In personal conversations with Randy there were other reasons Fig closed. Not because of lacking business which was doing good.

Spent the afternoon on Mullet and about 90 minutes chatting with Cheri. So many stories! Has anyone been to the sushi place above the casino yet? Contemplating it.

The smoothy place is the Rialto.
I had two coconut ice creams there last week !
Great ice cream, street side tables !
The clerk remembered me the second time !

Across from Ralto's is Gio's - a gelato shop - worth a try.
If the Jamaican place was in the La Terasse complex - down from where Good Life was - in late March it was closed

Bibovino Maho (facing the Royal Casino) on Friday and Saturday it's lasagna in the homemade oven and homemade sangria, its choice of 35 different wines to the glass and of course its usual card, reservation at 0690083237

yes Lina......Spadarro is still there...and he still is a regular each night at his casino....and overlooking his empire. I don't know how you think that he could've avoided a shooting...but to each his own. Didn't the shooting happen towards Beacon Hill??? IT DID NOT OCCUR AT MAHO. Second...shooting unfortunately are a way of life...especially here in the good ole USA. Don't know why anyone would think that SXM would be any different. There are bad apples everywhere...why would SXM be any different? How many of us can say that we can now watch ANY NEWS CAST in any city in the USA, and NOT hear about a shooting?? I am not talking about the larger massacres...I am talking about robberies....rapes...the one on one crime type? Unfortunately, this is a way of life ANYWHERE. All we can do is try to be aware of current surroundings always, use common sense...and pray that the next person you may see walking up the street, getting out of a car...or sitting next to you at a restaurant, is not a crackpot with a gun.
